Delta To Start Service To CWL And NCL?

Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:37 am

I ran across this on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Air_Lines_destinations#Other_routes and it says that Delta will operate 757's from JFK to CWL and NCL. Now, I know that wikipedia isn't the most reliable source in the world, but you would think that someone would have edited it by now. Can anyone confirm this? Also which other routes are rumored/confirmed to be started from JFK with or without 757's?

I also saw under Other Routes that DL is looking into service from LAX to SYD, and I know that THAT can't be true. Can someone please clear all this up?

Two things to remember:

First, anybody can edit wikipedia. It is an open, user maintained source.

Second, the wording around the CWL and NCL routes is that they MAY be included among new routes to the U.K. when Delta takes delivery of the ex-TWA 757s.

There has been some discussion of serving SYD, but it would have to be via HNL as DL has no available B777 aircraft or route authority for daily LAX-SYD frequencies to establish service nonstop from LAX. The wording there implies that Delta has applied for LAX-SYD, which is incorrect.
It's a new day. Every moment matters. Now, more than ever.

I guess someone edited it, because there's no mention of CWL or NCL.

Im still waiting for the new Atlantic City and Miami routes from Jetblue that was listed under new Jetblue destinations.

Yes, DeltaSFO must've edited it or any a.netter who was just looking at this thread. It did however say it and all I was wondering was if this could be true.

Another interesting fact... Glen Hauenstein, chief of network development at Delta, recently noted that Delta is considering Casablanca, Nairobi, and Cairo for service.

No surprise. DL has essentially run out of 767-worthy markets in Europe, and are now focusing on Africa, hence ATL-DKR-JNB and JFK-ACC. The US-Africa markets is still pretty much underserved, particularly by US carriers. Except NBO, most of these markets would like Euro routes only require 1 plane for daily service, making these flights even more attractive. Plus, you gotta consider that for NBO, Kenya Airways is poised to become a Skyteam Associate member pretty soon, and RAM at CMN also has good connection with DL as well, mostly due to maintenance they do for each other, plus a few assorted codeshares. And CAI is large enough of a market that it could succeed based on O&D alone.

Yes, they do, though that has a disadvantage in that RAM doesn't operate this flight on a daily basis most of the year, mostly 5x weekly, and DL starting CMN themselves, especially from ATL and offering US service on the day RAM doesn't would complement the market pretty well.
