Will They Make A ERJ 190 Business Jet?!

Thu Aug 31, 2006 11:21 pm

I was just wondering if there were plans to make an ERJ 190 to compete with a BBJ or the Global Express for example?!

It just seems as though it would be nice size for a compromise between a BBJ and something smaller - if they could get the range?!

I'm curious... did you think of visiting Embraer's website for the answer? It is a good place to check out the Lineage of their jets.  Wink

Yeah of course. Unless I was looking in the wrong place - I didn't see anything.

You can click on any of the "executive jets" links on their web site...  Smile

Is a nice looking jet, but how many do you think they could sell? That aircraft market is already pretty saturated isn't it? You've got the BBJ with three variants and the ACJ, it probably isn't feasible for them to make the changes to the airframe.

That's probably why they're sticking with a pure E190 airframe instead of doing soemthing more expensive such as what Boeing did with the BBJ (a -800 wing on a -700 fuselage). Getting the E190 fitted out for business jet travel shouldn't be too high of a risk, and even selling a few would bring a return on investment, and would strengthen their entire business jet product line.

Them having done the Legacy 600, I half expected Embraer to come up with a long range E170 business jet first.

Since this is about an Embraer business jet - picking up from where Tangowhisky left off in the HNA order thread - a bigger high speed wing on the E170 might indeed result to a range improvement, but doesn't this also imply a structural change and engine upgrade to carry the additional fuel required to increase the range significantly to around 6000+ NM?

Admittedly, such a "killer" business jet as envisioned above is undoubtedly resource depleting and a tough sell, given that only governments might require that kind of range and size. In any case, it makes a tantalizing possibility with the E170's dwindling sales. But the Phenoms do have it.

I know that this jet is slightly bigger than say the G550 and the Global Express but realistically, can it compete with them?

Gulfstream G550
6,750nm @ mach .80 w/ 8 pax, 4 crew, IFR reserves at MTOW
maximum ceiling 51,000ft
maximum speed mach .885
5,900ft runway t.o. length at MTOW

Embraer Lineage 1000
4,200nm @ mach .80 w/ 8 pax, 3 crew, IFR reserves at MTOW
maximum ceiling 41,000ft
maximum speed mach .82
6,900ft runway t.o. length at MTOW

as far as performance numbers go, the gulfstream has it. on top of that, the G550 is tried and true, versus a jet brand new to the business market...risky business if you ask me! if your decision is between the two, i would take the G550 any day of the week.

i'm not so sure they're after the gulfstream market as much as they are the BBJ and ACJ folks. it's still a sticky situation though. that's a tough market to step into. boeing and airbus have a heck of a foot in the door. if sold at the right price, i wouldn't count embraer out quite yet.

that's what they said about the BBJ! i had my doubts, but i was wrong. the aircraft isn't much of a necessity in any true business jet market, but if the money is on the table, why not? there doesn't seem to be much need to market the aircraft, due to the limited buyers, so the big boys don't seem to spend much time concerning themselves with it. i've seen one ad for the ACJ 319, that's it. think of it as ferarri. you won't see television ads for them, because they know the buyers will come whether it's on TV or not. the number of those interested in the aircraft has proven to be surprisingly large for it's share in the aviation world.

it seems like a contradiction after what i just said, but bare with me! remember the dornier 728 jet? the business version was to be dubbed the envoy 7. despite several orders from multiple companies, it disolved. the promising abilities of that plane were enough on their own to build a hangar in SBN that was solely designed for that a/c, giving you an idea of how much a few companies put into dornier's project.

With the Global Express' and G550's list prices, I'd say such a hotrodded E170 business jet would have more than a fighting chance.

Although not quoted, I was actually answering Gh123's Reply 9. I didn't see your post previous to this, as it's only less than two minutes ahead of my Reply 11, so no one's out to get you.

I completely agree with you.

Is there a thread regarding the British Govt. purchasing any aircraft. Its about time they did. Every country in the world has its own aircraft and yet we have to charter an old DC-8.

Also, what do you think they'd get. Is there a previous thread?

Thanks.
