Bomb Assembled On Plane 2x In The Philippines

Fri Sep 01, 2006 11:32 pm

This article is very detailed and I would say quite believable. I have never been to the Philippines but I would guess that their airport security procedures are not much different from what it is in the US or in Europe. Luckily, the guy was only doing a test for the govt...

Quote:
At the departure gate, the antiterrorism expert said he passed through the walk-in detector, frisking and X-ray areas.

He underwent the same security checks at the boarding area.

To prove that he was able to get the explosive and its components past security personnel, he filmed the bomb he had assembled on the plane and showed the footage recently to select members of the media.

How did he get the bomb and its components past the tight security?

Read the article to find out. What does it mean for the future airport security measures? Interestingly, it makes a point that liquid bombs are not as big a threat as conventional explosives.

Quote from article:-

"Ten minutes after takeoff from the Manila domestic airport, the antiterrorism expert said he got up from his seat and went to the plane’s lavatory. Inside, he mixed all the materials together. He then pulled out a digital camera from his jacket and took a video of his lethal concoction."

And what if it accidentally detonated???

Very clever.

PS -- forgot to attribute that I found the article on fark.com. If anyone interested in the discussion on that forum (i.e., what the public thinks), here's the thread--

Several people on the aforementioned thread claim that the "C4" bomb used is stable and not prone to accidental detonation. I have no idea if it's true or not...
