OH YEAH, love it!

Nearly a screw driver tail cone CO MD-80 living again...not many of those in the first place.

Better yet, love the KLD 737 behind it...he who shot it-what's the reg. of that tasty treat?

Count me on the "don't like it" column... Wish it would have been more colorful!

Then again, it doesn't surprise me at all...

It is funny that you say : A-LA-COPA, since we all know, Copa's livery was inspired by Continental!

IIRC, CO owns 51% of CM. Hence the similar liveries. I enjoy the new AeroRepublica livery, as it is a carbon copy of Copa's. Not original, but classy.

CO no longer owns the 49% of CM. The Panamanian owners have the 51%, about 35% is traded on the NYSE and the rest is what now belongs to CO.

About the new livery, total lack of imagination from CM.
I was expected the same livery but with the Colombian flag colours.

Boy, what a boring c/s!!!.... I also say a BIG YUCK!!!! that livery is too played out.... it's 3 AIRLINES with practically the same look.... but it was a given that CM would just use their CO inherited livery in AeroRepublica.... It's kinda of funny how each one is "affiliated" to the other.... "AeroRepublica affiliated to Copa", and "Copa affiliated to Continental".... I wonder if Copa will do to AeroRepublica what CO did to Copa... use it for a few years, get it going, then sell it's stakes thus making lots of money....

Anyways, this MD80, like someone mentioned, reminds us all of the old CO MD-80s they had... I just wished CM would have done something more original for AeroRepublica... final verdict: this livery for AeroRepublica STINKS!!!

I actually like it, it looks professional and business-like, much like CO. Is P5 aiming to lure the biz traveler?

And now, let the speculation begin: When will CM and P5 join SkyTeam?

I belive sometime before CM tookover P5, P5 did have some rights to fly a route between Colombia and U.S.A., maybe BAQ-MIA (?). Now is up to the Colombia-U.S.A. bilateral to see if it's possible for P5 to fly to an U.S. destination.
Does any (Colombian) Forum member knows if the Colombia-U.S.A. bilateral allows open skies between ADZ/CTG and selected U.S. airports?
I think P5 E190 most likely will have the range to fly between BAQ/CTG/ADZ and MIA/FLL/TPA/MCO; but those aircrafts were ordered economy class cabin only by CM.

Chiguire, I asked above and have yet to see an answer.
The colors are that of KLD, KaliningradAvia, of Russia. Their first planes were from Aer Lingus or United, if I remember right, so this one's a bit interesting.

Terrible, terrible paintscheme. I've never liked Copa's CO-style logo, don't like the colors. I wouldn't even call this a "paintscheme".

Just another plain plane, and Latin American paintschemes get yet even MORE boring..

I personally can't care less to see another plain Continental plane in Miami, Orlando or wherever they fly to.

So now we have 3 airlines in the boring Continental livery. Great..

What route is the KLD 737 taking on delivery anyone in Costa Rica know?

I like it!

It is simple, efficient and professional looking, much cleaner than the old one.

Now all CM has to do is get rid of the name, I am sorry but for me AeroRepublica just seems so unprofessional and reminds me of the terrible airline they were. They need to take on the COPA name to really start changing their image.

Apparently AeroCivil doesn't allow a name change so for now CM is stuck with the AeroRepublica name, but the goal for CM is to eventually have everything opperating under the COPA brand.

Quoting Atnight (Reply 13):

Doubt it, because P5 could become a competitor of CM. CM is going to eventually merge everything into a single airline conglomerate a-la LAN and TACA. Selling P5 would be like TACA selling Lacsa.

Though there are legal figures they can use to unify the name and image without getting in trouble with the law if they wish. For example, just paint the COPA titles in the bigger font, and a little sign indicating "operated by AeroRepublica" in smaller font below, which nobody will see.

Avianca has the same problem, they are not allowed to erase the SAM name or brand, so they simply paint it in microscopic letters under the big Avianca titles.

Your'e not that far away from the truth. In Latin America there's TACA, LAN, and now COPA. Each of these 3 have supposedly separate airlines, with no real distinction in image.

The worst thing that could have happened for variety's sake.

I like the livery - though I would have recommended that they take the three stripes and make them the colors of the Colombian flag - a subtle change to differentiate them from COPA.

CO no longer owns the 49% of CM

CO sold most of its CM shares in CM's IPO and the recent secondary equity offering, CO now only maintains a 10% equity interest in CM. CO has benefitted tremendously from its original investment in CM and has used the cash proceeds from the sale to fund pension liabilities and other financial obligations. Of course, CO and CM [and now P5] continue to maintain their marketing and operating alliance, with extensive code-shares, common equipment [except for CM's new E190 fleet] and operations.

CM stock has performed very well recently, following its favorable 2006 Q2 earnings release, and closed at USD 30.00 today, up from USD 24.09 on January 5, the first day of trading after the IPO.

What I'm going to say, is of course my own personal opinion, and although I enjoy being a elite pax with Continental, and have flown many many miles with Copa and like their product, I really dislike the name COPA.... and I don't know why COPA, which is hardly owned by CO, need to keep or make their smaller brother wear a type of color scheme that belongs to a north american airline... why couldn't they be more creative? well, I guess their name says it all "Copa"... what a lack of professionalism in the name... I don't know how some of you think it's really professional and all.. perhaps you don't remember how horrible their airline was until CO bought half of it.... CM owes CO it's life.... but now they should not be soo dependant as to not able to do their own paint scheme... even the fonts are the same... too boring... with CO's we have enough.... and personally, the tail of CO is so much better than CM.... anyways, as a last note, those who like the name Copa over AeroRepublica are off in my opinion.... for, what really is "COPA"??? It would be "CUP" in english... I don't like AeroRepublica that much, but for sure it beats Copa... I know copa is just an acronym, but it really doesn't sound like a professional name.... Even "GOL" doesn't sound too much of a good name.... of course, no one beats "Santa Barbara Airlines" in LatinAmerica for the most unprofessional name.... mercy.... I don't know why big companies lack imagination and professionalism.... at least there are a few international airlines down there that have a name worth mentioning...

Names like SAETA, TAME, VARIG, TAM, PLUNA, LAN, TACA, JAL, ANA, TAP are as original as COPA; Latino airlines like other business like the use of acronyms while the airlines in the US/Europe use adjetives or made up names (Continental, Alitalia).
Remember that COPA added Airlines to make it a more international name, before that COPA was plain Compañía Panameña de Aviación.
And to disagree with you CM doesn't owe CO it's life, CM expansion plans before CO brought itself in, were going to be done regardless if CO wanted to work with them; maybe CM would have had a different livery. CO just felt it needed a bit more presence in Latinamerica and passenger feed to its PTY-IAH-PTY flight, CM needed better (code share) access to key U.S. cities.. that was it. If you see it know, it has been CM which saved CO backside, CO succesfully sold 39% of CM on the NYSE and could make good use of some cash they didn't have and were desperately needing.

The Panamanian airline missed a great oportunity to get the logo of a "cup". Yes, a Gold Cup. A logo that actually means something (1st place) and would have been worlds apart in originality and style compared with the current "ball with hairs sticking out" somewhat copied from CO (which has a much better logo actually) that's obviously a Globe. COPA, a great name in my opinion, but currently with a very half a$$ed CO makeover that doesn't suit it.

Nothing wrong with the name, in my view. To the "gringos" must sound pretty exotic and yes, cool.

Love all of those mentioned especially these three. Sound very cool when pronounced in Spanish.

Absolutely terrible that AeroRepublica would change their clean, sharp livery for this CO copycat crap. Sad day for the history and identity of Latin American airlines.

Actually was someone expected anything different? I was just waiting to see it for real, not waiting to see something different. I think it looks OK, it has a corporate feeling, seriousness, professionalism that have been lacking in P5's past liveries. It is a little boring but it is definitely and improvement although a little red over the globe would have been a nice Colombian touch.

The Embraers are going to look sweet BTW...

I am an AV fan, but I do hope that P5 keeps going and improving and getting better and better. We do not want a monopoly again.

They could have at least made the globe tail a bit different, like when CM took the CO-ish colours for their rebranding into Copa Airlines.

Otherwise, I don't mind the livery but it is lacking originality. AV did much better with their new colours in terms of originality of the design.
