Aircraft delivery

One of the messages below mentioned about DC-9s operated by Hawaiian Airines. I just don't understand how the DC-9s get to Hawaii. I don't think DC-9s can fly far enough all the way to Hawaii even from SFO or LAX.

They can rip the interiors out, put in extra fuel cells, and fly them from SEA or ANC. That's what I've been told. Take out all of the unnecessary weight.

In the 1960's DC-9 30's made it all the way to Melbourne Australia, that is with lots of extra fuel carried in the acft cabin. They did however make several stops!!

When they were ferried over to hawaii there were no pax or bags, so the aircraft was able to do it no problem, it's less than 3000mi. An interesting bit of trivia. When SAS took delivery of their MD-90s not a single fuel stop was made on the way to Copenhagen from Long Beach. The MD-80s ordered in previous years always had to make one stop en-route
