AN12 In Calgary (YYC) Today... Why?

Wed Sep 06, 2006 12:24 pm

I was checking flights today into Calgary on FlyteComm and Flight Aware. I noticed an arrival of an Antonov AN12 operated by Avialeasing Aviation Company from Miami this morning. Then, twelve hours later doing yard work I heard and saw her climbling slowly and smoking to the south. Turned out she was flying to Huntsville AL tonight. Anybody know why it could've been here?

I noticed it had done a flight to Yellowknife in the last few months as well.

Thanks

Callsign for this aircraft is ''twinarrow''.The aircraft belongs to avialeasing SRX and will be operating out of YZF and YEG this fall/winter flying to CSK6,Diavik and Ekati. It will be joined by a Veteran air AN-12 that will be based in YEG for the winter season...

The ice roads were a absolute disaster last winter and as a result alot of supplies destined for the diamond mines (Fuel, equiptment, food) didnt get into the camps.Plus many of the mines (CSK6 and Diavik) are ramping up production and work and more lift is needed.First air has contracted Lynden air cargo and Air contractors Ireland to help out with more L-100's aswell.Dont forget there is a long term contract using the giant Mi-26 ''Halo'' aswell by UT air.
