Hawaiian's Latest 767 Now In Service

Wed Sep 06, 2006 4:01 pm

HA introduced it's first former Delta 767-300 aircraft now registered as A/C 594 into scheduled service over the holiday weekend on HA flight 44 from HNL-SJC on Monday. The cabin interiors were not redone yet and the aircraft will fly as is for about 2 months with the old Delta interiors. It is scheduled to go back to Goodrich for the interior overhaul in either late OCT or early NOV.
Aircraft 595 will be arriving in HNL from Goodrich at the end of September with the all new look interiors, and will be reconfigured to match the standard seating configuration of Aircraft 587-593.
Aircraft 594 will be scheduled mostly for flights from HNL to SJC/SMF I have been told.
Good news for HA.

Aloha,
HALFA

As with all the 767s, the name after a seabird or migratory bird native to Hawaii. The `ulili, wandering tattler (heteroscelus incanum) or sandpiper, migrates from Alaska to Hawaii for the winter.

Oh yes, there's plenty of rumors, but as for something believeable...

Right now our mangement is working on integrating the new ex-Delta fleet. They have said they want to expand, but the supply of used (even in poor condition) 767's is very slim. There have been rumors of us getting some 777's, but even that would be a ways off. The main expansion rumors have been to Asia (Japan, China, Phillipines, Taiwan, Hong Kong etc), but all that takes time, $, and a little bit of luck.

The new planes are a step in the right direction, and we all hope it continues.

Mahalo "HALFA" for the update.

Planning on flying to SJC in October....Hope I get to fly in one of those new ex-Delta birds with the 777 interior.

Is 595 still scheduled to arrive in HNL end of Sept??

Happy to see Hawaiian expanding their fleet....

Aloha!

It is simply a very popular aircraft with the airlines. It has about the lowest seat-mile operating cost of any widebody airliner out there, and that makes it popular with the airlines today. Also, they are not ordering it from the factory much anymore because most airlines are waiting for its replacement - the 787. High demand and low availability makes for a hard-to-get aircraft.

I made a mistake with the registration numbers. The 4 Ex-Delta aircraft that HA has purchased will be registered as #594, 596, 597, and 598. The #595 is taken by another company, I'm sure someone on here can tell us more.
It will be #596 that will arrive in HNL from Goodrich at the end of this month.

bigthumbsup  Thanks for that, I was about to ask. I think thats a great idea to name their a/c. Really symbolic too to name them after birds native to Hawaii. HA is a great airline, all the best to them!

Rumor was (here at a.net) SLC. There hasn't been anything since that post a month or so ago.

HA seems to be in profitability mode right now - I would guess any expansion will be in the form of their currently served locations. SAN is keeping OGG on HA year-round, as well as HNL, so increases in cities already served would be the least expensive investment, yes? I'd love to see HA fly a red-eye SAN-HNL...I know, I know, dream on!!  cloudnine

Maybe when the American Samoa governor personally blocks the runway at PPG, HA can use that plane for another expansion somewhere...  rotfl

laughing  Could be possible, as HA 16 (HNL-SAN) gets here around 2030 IIRC. Could go back home for the night. But then they'd need an extra aircraft as 16 is one of the two RONs for the next day HNL and OGG departures.

I cool route using the red-eye theory is to continue the HNL-SAN flight onward to MEX since there is no-one flying SAN-MEX right now on a non-stop basis.

Here is how the schedule could look...

HNL....11:40p
SAN.....7:00a
SAN.....8:00a
MEX.....1:20p

MEX.....2:45p
SAN.....4:20p
SAN.....5:20p
HNL......9:05p

Unfortunately we really aren't set up to do a 60 minute turn with our 767's, especially for ETOPS flights where we have to do a fairly extensive mechanical inspection. I think 90 minutes would be an absolute minimum, and 2hrs would provide proper time to clean, cater, and prep the plane.

Anyone know which DL tail numbers these were so I can cross them off my fleet list?

Thanks

Thank you HA_DC9 for the info. I was on 116DL once, 117DL, 119DL once, 118DL twice. That is kinda disapointing. They were all great planes and hope they fly on with HA for a long time.

That plane was built, then bought by Russian multi-billionare Roman Abromovich and turned into one of the larger personal biz-jets out there.

The new owners have turned in the N595HA registration, but because of slow processing by the FAA (and a required waiting period before reissue), the number was not ready for re-use by Hawaiian when they bought the ex-Delta 767's. If more aircraft are eventually bought, 595 would be used then.
