I've been travelling in the skies for decades and like to think I know the commercial industry quite well.. after all, it pays the bills. However, I've never flown with my toddler daughter before and surprisingly there's a few questions to which I don't have the answer to. Perhaps some of you more seasoned travellers-with-kids can help me out.
In December, my family and I will be flying (with 2 year old kid in tow) on an American Airlines 757 nonstop to Newark from Los Angeles. I know plenty about child safety and seats in aircraft, but it appears after some research that car seats are actually wider than the seats of AA's 757 Y class. In two calls to American airlines, I was told that the seat width of the AA 757 in Economy is 17", yet I havn't seen a single children's seat manufactured (FAA approved) that fits within this. We use a Britax Marathon forward-facing seat, and I'm fairly certain that it's close to, if not wider than the AA 757 Y class seat.
Nobody at American's reservations department seems to be willing to give us more information or assistance for planning ahead, even considering my elite AA frequent flyer status.
We need your help! Do you have any feedback or assistance? I was hoping a flight attendant for American Airlines or perhaps a seasoned family traveller could help us out. Thank you!
