If CX buys the A380, I imagine they'd use it on YVR-HKG.

What does SQ fly into YVR now? If it's a 744, the A380 could be an eventual possibility/probability.

Is LH still flying to YVR? I lived there until last year and I remember LH used A346s and 744s so maybe in the future they could bring the A380 Big grin

SQ now fly a B777-200ER into YVR 3x weekly. I've been on that flight and loads were good, but I don't see it as a candidate for upgauging to a B777-300ER let alone a WhaleJet. If SQ operate the WhaleJet to north america, NRT-LAX seems more likely.

YVR is right now on a big international terminal expantion. It will feature a large aquarium and nine more gates. Two gates D64 and D65 will be 380 capable. Four of the new gates will have double airbridge.

Here's a good question - what Asian airline flies the most 744s to YVR? If they are ordering the A380, it's a safe bet you'll see it at YVR.....

Remember, SQ would love to fly more to YVR and YYZ as well....But there's no bilateral agreement between Canada and Singapore currently....Until that is all cleared up, you won't see SQ fly more than the 3x weekly into YVR

Sorry, I don't want to sound like an a$$hole but KE doesn't fly their B744 into YVR anymore. LH might be a possible candidate because they say that their cargo loads into YVR are good, if the A380 can carry a lot more cargo than the A346

That's a shame becasue it can't. It has less volume than the A346. I'm sure an A380 will end up there at some point so keep your eye out on a.net for an unscheduled nip down to the airport. But I doubt there will be a regular schedule for at least the first 5 years.

That seems unlikely for two reasons:
1) SQ are not expected to order additional A340-500s as SIN-LAX and SIN-EWR nonstops are reportedly not profitable at current fuel prices, and
2) Much of SQ's YVR traffic is between ICN and YVR rather than between SIN and YVR.

That may be, but according to an article in The Province a couple of weeks ago, SQ stated that they are pushing for a change in Canada's bi-latteral agreement with Singapore as SQ would like to start non-stop service between SIN and YVR with the A345 as early as next year.

Interesting. I know SQ would like for Singapore and Canada to conclude a bilateral. To start A340-500 service to YVR would require either acquiring more ULH aircraft or giving up nonstop service to LAX or EWR.

Thats what was printed. And with SQ bypassing ICN, perhaps KE will up capacity to YVR as well. Wait and see what happens.

There are Corsair charters, but all tickets are sold in France.

In economy this is the case but SQ does very good on YVR-SIN for business class.

SIN-YVR is no problem for a B777-200ER, however, YVR-SIN would need to either go out very light or make a stop. Of course, the route is easy for a B777-200LR.

Well what's happening to AC's A345's? And being Star Alliance partners, wouldn't AC and SQ operate this as a codeshare (hypothetically speaking of course)?

Back to the question, I reckon it will be CX that operates the first scheduled A380's to YVR. Yes I know they have none on order currently.

Someone speculated in a similar thread before that we could see the A380 on a regular basis once Kingfisher starts getting their birds. I wouldn't be surprised to see this happening. There's a large Indian ex-pat population here, especially in southeast Vancouver and the Surrey area. CX hasn't even ordered any A380s yet. LH might occasionally send them here too during the busy summer season. I also speculated before that LH might even persuade locals over flying BA's 744s for their connecting flights to Europe if the A380 actually turns out to be an attractive plane to fly from the passengers' perspective (and if the fare is right or course).

I think the ONLY airline likely to fly the A388 to YVR is Cathay Pacific if CX does order the plane; it will be used on the non-stop route between HKG and YVR (where there is a very large Hong Kong expatriate community).

I wouldn't call YVR a likey WhaleJet destination even if CX were to order some, but if CX were to order more than a dozen, then it would at least be plausible, which I can't say for any of the other suggestions. Before CX order the WhaleJet, they will have to be convinced that it can fly SFO/LAX-HKG nonstop with good loads year-round (which the B747-400 can't quite do). In my opinion, CX would be better off with the A350 or B787 for transpacific ops. That would provide them with less risk and higher RASM at about the same CASM.

That's the most plausible idea I've seen yet in this thread. It's easy to imagine AF and LH running WhaleJets to YVR temporarily for the Olympics. EK and SQ seem a lot less likely. No one else has enough of them on order to have an easy time moving them temporarily to YVR.
