Finnair Seeks Code-share With Indian Carrier

Mon Sep 11, 2006 4:37 am

Finnair, which is launching its scheduled services to the sub-continent on October 30, is on the look out for a domestic code share partner, besides studying the possibility of moving labour intensive aircraft maintenance services to India.

The Finnish flag carrier, which is part of the Oneworld Alliance, said that it was in talks with some full-service Indian carriers initially for a pro-rata agreement, but declined to share more details.

That was interesting, thanks for the news. Any ideas which Indian airline would the new partner - and the possible first Indian OneWorld member?

Will be interesting to see how AY will do in Indian markets, especially if they expand also to Mumbai or Chennai.

I think Air Sahara has some kind of an agreement with AA. Thus wouldn't surprise me if AY chooses them as well.

I doubt this will happen. AA was getting nervous when Jet was in process of acquiring S2 earlier this year. Now after initial failure of acquisition, Jet is still keeping an eagle's eye on S2.

Also, S2 may not stay to be a full service carrier in the future.

A tie-up with Jet or Kingfisher would be more likely giving AY excellent through connectivity inside the country. S2 with its current issues (major delays) would be a bit unlikely.

Does Jet still have a code share agreement within India with KLM and Northwest?

I don't know why, but I somehow have a feeling it is going to be Jet Airways...

Also being discussed on the Indian Aviation Thread: Part 30 (by LAXDESI Sep 11 2006 in Civil Aviation)

My comments from that thread:

Makes a lot of sense - and will provide an indication of loads from other cities in India where they're planning to start flights from. A "common-rated" fare will also mean that folks don't hesitate to book AY from cities outside DEL.
