AVolar From Mexico To Order 20 Boeing's!

Mon Sep 11, 2006 9:58 am

Last September 8th, 2006, Avolar from TIJ disclosed several important issues for its future growth during its 1st year of operation celebration:

1. From a fleet of 01 it has now grown to 07 and will end up 2006 with 12 frames, 24 by 2007, 32 by 2008 and 40 by 2009 and 60 by 2011.

2. From 16 destinations it will go up to 32 in Mexico by the end of 2007.

3. By 2008 they will start to exchange in Mexico's and US stock.

4. They are currently in talks with Boeing to set an order for 20 firm Boeing 737-700NG's including 20 options. From the 20 firm, some will be owned others will be sold and lease back.

5. With this new fleet growth and time, they will fly to JFK, ORD, LAX, PHX, LAS, DFW, IAH and Canada (not yet decided where to) from now to 2008.

Ohhh.. typical, typical, typical, typical, typical, typical, typical, and Canada..

hmmm.. which Mexican airline is going to go outside the box? bring in some MCI, MSY, STL, RDU, CLT, etc.. I guess they need to get a foot in the door first..

Oh well, congratulations to Avolar in any aspect. Welcome to the US.

Great new from Avolar, another Mexican Airline starting to grow dramatically, hope they do it carefully.

Aren't some of this destinations restricted to a couple of airlines?
If so, how are they planning to get them? Bigger airlines (AM,MX & 6A) will hold what they got with strength!

Well if BOS was a big no no for AM, then smaller cities would probably, just probably, not work. But there are big surprises with some routes sometimes.

Can the E170/ E190 make MEX- US east coast given hot and high conditions and relative long distances and perhaps headwinds??

If they can make Mexico- US East coast and Canada then i think in the next few years we can expect many new orders for E-jets from Mexico for secondary US airport service.

MX is planning to land/return to SJU, SEA, BFL, DTW, ATL and CLT between 2006/2007! Perhaps later in two years we will see them landing at MCI, MSY, RDU... is getting really hot down here...

6A is getting Embraer's and will renew and boost its fleet from February 2007 to August of 2008. Remember that by October of 2007 several city pairs will open giving 3 airlines from each side to compete!!!

Quoting KLM685 (Reply 3):

Yes! Depends on the city-pair... but almost NOTHING is restricted from TIJ thus said, A5 can fly from TIJ to all those destinations above mentioned.

I forgot to mention, Avolar will invest 700 million during the next 05 years. During its first year of operation they only invested 60 million USD.

And it keeps getting better and better...

Not typical from TIJ, however. It would kick ass if TIJ could get some of these destinations.

Nehme also confirmed that Avolar will land in TLC by the end of October 2006... apparently they will fly to GDL and MTY (I thought it would be TIJ-TLC nonstop, but I guess they will go to TIJ with 1 stop), more competition for AM and MX...

Congratulations AVOLAR!

Now the backlog of some of the Mexican startups is as follows:

  • AVolar - 20 73G + 20 Options. I think they will be equipped with WL.
  • InterJet - 10 A320 + 10 Options.
  • Volaris - 16 A319 + 40 Options.

According to a related article in América Economía magazine, AVOLAR has a LF of 75% and is currently moving 250,000 PAX; by 2007 is expected 1M.

I read it was 69% which is not bad for a start up with lots of new routes!!! What I will like to know is the avarage fare paid by passengers and their CASK...

I flew OAK-TIJ on Azteca(ZE) #423 the last flight between these two cities. When I arrived to TIJ the Avolar jets look very new and nice. The livery is different than the normal but cool. My cousin flew from TIJ-GDL and said the service was great. Glad to see that there is an alternative to MX and AM.

I must agree with ERJ170 these destinations are too typical... why not diversify? It is clear these are the strongest markets, but rather than fight for the same booty, why not cater to other unattended markets?

Excellent news. All the Mexican LCCs & Majors seem to be doing something, except Azteca.

AM and MX will be the most hurt, since they have the biggest market share in those markets. MEX/TLC - MTY and GDL have too much competition already but TIJ-MTY and TIJ-GDL only have ZE and 6A (JR is trying to get back) with AM and MX being the strongest, therefore, more cheap fares will hurt AM and MX mainly!!

There is no hope for ZE anymore!! They don't have the slightest idea of how to compete in the airline industry...

Isn't there also some Ryan Air spinoff or something of the sort to be started? Do you think there is enough market for all these airlines here in Mexico?

Well, they might not know how to walk properly, but if they learn fast enoght they will destroy mexican flag carriers in those routes with its much lower CASM allowing them to sell cheaper on those routes than AM and MX. And if other airlines also compete against AM and MX in the rest of the routes, then the airlines that will be hurt are the ones with the higher CASM (guess which ones). It is not like before that AM and MX could fight in one route getting the money back from the monopoly of the other. In this days, they have competition in almost every single route they fly in Mexico and also tons of competition from American, Southamerican and European carriers on international routes. Adding to that that MX and AM are no longer owned by the same company (CINTRA), this means war. So no more monopoly, and like in other countries, the lowest CASM in a ultra pricesensitive market is the one that most likely will survive.

Ghost77 where would we be in Australia without your excellent updates of your local aviation developments. Again I find myseld thanking you sir. Not to question you but is there anylink to this as I would like to post it on a site about orders. I would naturally credit you and this site as the source but I feel it would be of some interest.

It must be quite good to watch your local aviation market develop so much

Thanks again for this new news which I appreciate.

AVolar just confirmed they will be landing in Toluca (TLC) with the following flights:

5x day TLC-MTY-TLC
4x day TLC-GDL-TLC
2x day TLC-CUN-TLC

these flights will compete against

Volaris
2x day TLC-MTY
2x day TLC-GDL
2x day TLC-CUN (3x day on Saturday and Sunday)

Interjet
5x day TLC-MTY (2x day on Saturday and Sunday)
5x day TLC-GDL (2x day on Saturday and 4x day on Sunday)
2x day TLC-CUN (1x day on Sunday)

Place your bets on who will survive the match... my bet goes to Volaris, then A Volar and finally Interjet!!! AM, MX, 6A, ZE and Magnicharters will also be hurt by these new flights... good luck to all of them and let the low fares come!!!

My bet goes for Avolar, followed by Volaris and Interjet as a third!

Avolar for somehow i foresee they have all the know how and a great operational team as a backup and big $$$ too.

Glad to know I finally will have the chance to try A5!!!

If Interjet and Volaris had the same engines in their aircraft, a merger could be the way to go in the future... a merger would definitely ensure their long term survival and would put them in a position of great strength at TLC.
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738
