Japan's Skymark Airlines Set To Order 787

Mon Sep 11, 2006 2:49 pm

Skymark Airlines is set to join the 787 club, according to sources at the Japanese carrier. Skymark, which operates five 767-300ERs, has advised Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport that it will add four 787s between 2010 and 2012. It operates a 10-times-daily shuttle service from Tokyo Haneda to Sapporo and Fukuoka in addition to four-times-daily flights to Kobe and twice-daily service to Naha. It is expected to be granted additional slots at HND when the fourth runway is opened in 2009.

Cool. I wonder why they have 767-300ER for these routes. HND-OKA is not that far. I think its like 3 hours.

I wonder if these will be 787-3s. They have no international rights now and it would not make sense to have a -8 or -9.

I guess that if this is the case, Japan will be -3 heaven.

Just for reference Skymark Airlines (English)
My name is Centrair but HND is closer. Let's Japanese Aviation!

The B787-3 was designed specifically with the Japanese domestic market in mind.

Quoting Leelaw (Thread starter):

First, this source doesn't seem to be able to keep its facts straight. Skymark Airlines has SIX 763s and its not like it added the sixth very recently.

Last I heard, Skymark Airlines was set to be an all-738 fleet.
Perhaps the delay in opening of the fourth runway at HND is having Skymark reconsidering its future plans.
If the fourth runway doesn't open the availability of future slots will be very restricted and it won't allow Skymark to have say hourly 738s on the HND-CTS/FUK run and start additional routes in Japan.
