Respected US Airways Exec Dies At Age 47

Tue Sep 12, 2006 3:38 am

It's a sad day around US Airways HQ today. Jeff had a very important role in the success of the HP/US merger.

This was a really sad day for me personally. If anyone is interested, I posted the text of the internal communication about this (from a friend) as well as my own thoughts on Jeff here.

There was an article in the Arizona Republic last year about Jeffrey and his cancer battles.

This is indeed very sad news. I only met Jeff once during the beginning of the merger of US and HP. I had the opportunity to ask him questions about the merger. He never flinched once during my assault of difficult questions. Great man, and very honest. I left the meeting feeling very confident, and glad to know he was a cruicial part of the success of the merger.

May he rest in peace, and be remembered for his hard work. US lost a very special person, and it will be hard to fill the shoes he wore. RIP Jeff.  Sad

He was indeed a great guy. I met him at our Mesa gripe session in PHX a couple years back....he was very courteous and friendly...I sat next to him and he was willing to answer all my questions.

He will be missed...

He made me change my mind about the prospects of the merger, as I was completely against it when I first heard the idea.

I was very saddened to hear about this. I remember Jeff when he was in charge of NWA's SOC, and he was both very pleasant and engaging as well as very knowledgable about the airline industry. He was very, very sharp, and what he didn't know about the operations side, he picked up very quickly. It was obvious he was going to go places in the airline industry, and I was sad to see him leave NWA when he moved to America West. (How many bosses can you say that about?) It is a nice gesture to name the US Airways Operations Center after him - that speaks volumes about him, both as a person and also to his mark on America West / US Airways.

It also may speak somewhat to US' intention to put the company's overall flight control center in PHX. Not really, but that will occur to some people...
