VIDEO: Boeing LCF, First Flight

Tue Sep 12, 2006 11:04 pm

Hi All

Take a look at this nice video showing the first flight for the Boeing 744 LCF.
I think you can see the number two on the line right in the start of the video
http://www.flightlevel350.com/Aircra...g_Company_Aviation_Video-7077.html

Well, she is not a beauty, but I hope she will serve her owners good for many years to come.

Enjoy

Regards
Steen

I dont thin it does, the "Beluga" from Airbus has been in service for a few years now, and they do not seem to have any problems with it.
I am looking forward to see the plane in Boeing´s house colours, I think it will look a great deal better than it does now (even though it will still look a little ugly IMO).
But its all about efficiency and not beauty.

It wasn't designed for beauty. It was designed for funcionality.

It climbs better than I thought it would with the new design. Ugly airplane though. But just watch, some moron in the media will think it is a new pax version of the 747 to compete against the A-380.

Ahh come on, you can't compare the A380 to this ugly thing.. they are not even close...
To be fair, lets look at two desing images of LCF and cargo A380:

Pleasee.. the A380 is much, much nicer..

excuse me if this question has already been asked- but will the plane be painted ever? or do they want to save costs associated with extra weight?

Yes that is the final design, but it will be painted later this year or early next year. Then we'll have a better idea of how it "looks". Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Boeing should sign a contract with Oscar Meyer to paint it as a hot dog and reap the advertising benefits  Smile. I think with a good paint scheme it could pass for a pretty convicing hot dog. Think about it, over the years all the advertising dollars could repay for it's development costs if not more. (Anyone with photoshop skills want to give this a shot?  Smile). I'm not sure how the 787 marketing people would like their parts flying around in a "hot dog". Maybe Boeing can lease it to Oscar Meyer for big events a la the Goodyear blimp. Just some random thoughts. . .

No, because the A380 will always look like a fat bald man, no matter how it's painted.

The beluga performs horribly in crosswinds because of its shape. But at the same time, the body generates lift (because of its 'wing' shape). Everything comes with a price.
Takeoffs are optional; landings are mandatory.

Hey fellows, looks are only skin deep. Both are winners in my eyes.

I just wonder if there will be a lowered hi end airspeed restriction for the LCF?

Please remember that the "guppy" and "super guppy" preceeded the Beluga by many years. They were quite ugly also but they were efficent in fulfilling their goal.

I rather have a "bold man design" as you call it, instead of a plane that looks that is about to explode because of depressurisation....

It's like somone put a huge sock on that B744! Big grin

Nice to see it fly though.. I noticed that like on the A388 first flight they left the landing gear down for the entire flight (or so it appears).

I'm sure it will look nicer when it has been painted.

cheers

I would have thought that they would have blended "The Hump" into the front section of the fuselage for aerodynamic purposes. Also seemed to be smoking a ton on rotation and climb out.

Agreed.
There must be a lot of 'dirty air spilloff' from that blunt fwd end of the sock.
A more uniform blend-in to the upper crown in my judgement would be better.
Anyway, wind tunnel airflow data will give the honest answer but I still have a hunch that there will be a cruise airspeed reduction for this craft.

OK, I need some help here. I must have missed something while I was on vacation in August, or something, because I saw this plane for the first time in a a.net picture about a week ago.

Why was this plane built? I mean, I know it's a cargo plane, but is it specifically for the 787 parts being hauled around the world? I saw some pictures of this plane in Asia, is this going to be built for other carriers or is it a "one of" for Boeing?
Also, I'll be the moron mentioned above. Is there any possible chance that Boeing has any plans to further alter this design and make a pax version?

Thanks, I just haven't had any knowledge of this bird.

PS Great video!!!

Multiple threads about this aircraft but I still don't have an answer to my questions. So I'll try to shoot this thread back to the top of the order.

yes, it's to carry 787 parts, there are 3 currently planned, but none for non-Boeing use. And no,there are no plans for a passenger version.

I don't think so. A380 = BUFF Deux.

No, the cavernous cargo hold is not pressurized and there is no support designed in for a floor in the middle.

I guess nothing will compare to the first flight of the A380.... that was a global event... nevertheless the weinerJet's first flight shows that inspite its uglyness, it will do the job very well... and for those of you who can't get over the fact that the A380 is perhaps the greatest comercial aircraft out there, and keep saying how "ugly" it is, would you do as all a favor and fly to france and SEE it for yourselves? It's rather old how some here just love to mention the A380 and it's looks.... go see it and then come back and see if you dare to say the same thing... anyone who sees it with its own eyes, will say its just amazing and won't complain about looks anymore....
