There is no promotional advantage for Airbus to bring the A380 to YYZ as AC is not interested in it. There are no parts being manufactured in the area so they have no reason for it to bring it here.

At this time none of the airlines have any plans to service YYZ with the A380. The nearest you can plan on seeing it will be YUL with AF.

Can't help you on the "FedEX Hill".

For the short term yes, but you never know if LH or AF will bring one in the peak season...... Maby once BA or CX have decided to get them...

There was some buzz earlier this year on A.net that the A380 would be making a visit to YYZ sometime before the years end for compatability tests with the airport. I think thats probably been put on hold until T1 is completed.

Are you kidding  crazy  YYZ has the highest landing fees in North America. They charge by the seat!!! Imagine what the fee would be if one were to land. More accuratly I can't see what airline would take leave of their senses and land a plane there.

They are not planning to have any equiptment or facilities for the A380 as the construction continues to go along at a snails pace for the new terminal

So I guess over 50 airlines have taken leave of their senses...

Snail's pace? What facts do you have to support that? Or are you giving us your biased opinion?
Fact is that there will be two (2) gates in Pier F that will be able to accomodate the A380.

Cheers,
Kaz

Actually, the new addition to T3 has been completed (for the most part) and I believe that the new Pier 'F' is close to completion as well.

'Snails' Pace seems to be unfair, considering the amount of work that needed to be done...

I apologize, I only worked there for three years and at the time I finished I was told by the GC that there were no dedcated gates for the A380 as no airlines had any plans to use the A380 to YYZ.

Couild anybody can tell me which airlines are planning to use the A380 to YYZ?

Actually, YYZ charges by the 1,000kg of MTOW; not by the seat. They do charge by the number of seats for a general terminal processing charge however.

I was out in Pier F just this past week walking in the gate area that will be able to handle the A380. To give you an idea of their 'snails pace' at YYZ, Pier F will have the same square footage (the pier alone) as Calgary Airport.

In addition to producing the evacuation system and cabin attendant seating on board the A380, Goodrich, as one of the world's largest suppliers of landing systems, provides both the main body and wing landing gear for the aircraft. Though Goodrich was already a major supplier for Airbus, it was the first time the company had been selected to provide landing gear for an Airbus aircraft. The components for the landing gear system are produced by Goodrich's Landing Gear division and involve manufacturing facilities in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Cleveland, Ohio; Tullahoma, Tennessee; and Krosno, Poland. The final gear integration takes place at the Goodrich facility in Toulouse, France before delivery to Airbus' final assembly line.

I think Brilondon's context was that no airline would land a plane there and incur great cost solely for demonstration purposes. The '50 airlines' that do land at YYZ do so because they have revenue there to offset the bloated costs imposed by the GTAA. I'll bet many of them would happily use an alternate with lower fees if one were available with reasonable proximity to Toronto's vast market. As it stands now, they have one choice: land at YYZ and pay high fees in exchange for your custom, or avoid Toronto altogether. The GTAA has them by the short n' curlies.
The nice thing about a mistake is the pleasure it gives others.

I don't think a couple thousand dollars will severely impact the A380 testing budget, so that is a moot point. If Airbus determines it is reasonable to send the A380 for testing at YYZ, then they will do so.

Regarding its potential visit, there was an article in the Star earlier this year about the A380 coming for some testing, but I haven't heard anything since.

As for FedEx, it's either UPS or Purolator (I forget right now) that should be going in there. I wonder if the road itself will be closed off once that apron area is built up.

I highly doubt it's Purolator.

I work for Purolator, and I haven't heard a word about us going in at that site.

Considering UPS owns the building adjacent to the lot, closer to Derry, I'd be willing to bed that UPS will be going in there.

Now, having said that.. Purolator would LOVE to fly out of YYZ.. but the airports operating hours do not fit with our schedule.
