Go! And Mokulele Sign Codeshare Agreement

Thu Sep 14, 2006 11:18 pm

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060914/lath071.html?.v=70

"Mokulele Airlines was recently granted authority from the state Department of Transportation to provide scheduled service. It will operate a brand new fleet of Cessna Grand Caravan 208B aircraft in the go!Express livery to Kapalua, Lanai and Molokai from Honolulu. It will complement existing service provided by go! to Lihue, Kahului, Kona and Hilo. go!Express will also offer other non-stop services between neighbor islands."

Well, this should certainly be the difference between losing $1 million per month and not. NOT!

Is this the long-awaited codeshare agreement. We shall see.

I hope Island Air is ready for this.

9 seat SINGLE- ENGINE-OVER-WATER part 135 operater Cessnas...
Although the PT6 is good I'd rather fly on a part 121 carrier like Island Air.

There's tourists who'll fly those routes on go! There's even some kama'aina without ties to HA, AQ, WP, or LP who might fly them. And go! IS inventing customers for itself by offering night flights on these routes, something that used to require a stay-over can now be flown on go! Hey, Mokulele is local owned, and needed CPR bad. LP flies Mokulele's previous routes on a schedule, so I've not flown Mokulele yet. Anybody remember Mahalo Air?

Mokulele has pax loads less than 10 in a Caravan. Island Air can easily fit 37 + have cargo space in their Dash8-100s. Hands down, I'd pick WP any day.

Mokulele also has PA31s as well, and looks like they'll keep them for their non-go! ops.

More than attacking Island Air, Ornstein is attacking Pacific Wings (LW), particularly because LW has more counter space @ HNL than YV, and he wanted LW to give up some of for go!'s larger ops. Citing that LW's space is not justified, because of their pax loads.

Inter-island airline competition is sure getting interesting ...

I am confused--exactly what sort of in-flight entertainment will they have on their Caravans? Are they referring to the scenery out the windows or the roller-coaster-like turbulence when the trade winds blow?  Smile

I love that thing! HA has been offering it for a year more on trans-Pac flights. Free in F. Started off $10 in Y, now $15 in Y. With two headsets. They're great!!! I love 'em! Now all his planes need is the IPOT!!!

Island Air wont be worried. It's Pacific Wings that will be affected by this.

BTW, is it just me, or do I get a sense that the "local" airlines are about to go to war with this "haole" invader.

Seriously, Go is going up against both the top and bottom end of interisland air travel...there's gotta be some mixed feelings in the islands about this threat to their local companies.

Hawaii has always been protective, and supportive, of home-grown businesses, this includes Hawaiian and Aloha. And is partly the reason (not fully) that outside carriers havent seen as much success.....

I wonder how this is playing out on the local level in Hawaii?

www.dontflygo.com The Hawaii (airline) Employees Repelling Ornstein - H.E.R.O. - website, is in response to allegations that YV is using illegal tactics to force AQ out if business. In the meantime, local inter-island airfares have fallen to $28 each way, across the board, and YV and HQ are suing each other in Federal Court. Quite the real life Hawai'ian Eye drama going on in our State!
