India & The Boeing 757

Fri Sep 15, 2006 3:19 am

I am at an airport lounge bored out of my mind and was wondering about the lack of 757s into and in India. Given that the 757 is a major aircraft, and India a relatively diverse aviation market, very few airlines have and do operate the type to India. Since, IC's controversial 320 pick over 757, there has been little love between the aircraft and the country.

AFAIK, there are NO operators of the type in India. Interesting as most emerging countries have new airlines start with older equipment. Of foreign carriers, I think the only 757 operators to India are T5 (ATQ, DEL) and RA (BOM, DEL) - CCU their oldest destination is now offline. In the immediate past, I remember HM (BOM), BI (CCU), and SQ briefly for a myraid of destinations.

Does anyone know of anything else?

Blue Dart, a cargo airline, currently owns two 757 via their association with DHL.

Funny how that conversation was there. I must have overlooked it. Also, my observations go beyond 757s owned by Indian firms. As far as I know, there are also limited 757s to India.

That's because the 757 is a medium range aircraft and not too many airlines in neighboring countries have gone for the 757.....those that do, generally fly larger aircraft to India...
