UA And The 757s

Sun Sep 17, 2006 2:50 am

are the only UA 757s that are painted in the new paint used only for P.S service? other than those used for P.S service, how many 757's are in the new paint?

I don't know how many non p.s. aircraft are in the NC but there are some out there.

As of now, yes. Only P.S. 757s are in new paint. I count 13 757-200s in NC.

You might be right but I am almost certain there is at least 1 non-p.s. 752 in the nc.

I believe by last count there are 14 total 757s in the new livery. And I'm positive one non-p.s. is because I saw it at ORD in late August.

Incorrect, there are a few Non PS 757's. A couple of weeks ago we had 2 NC 757's, 1 NC 319, 2 NC A320, 1 NC 733 and 1 OC A320 in PHL overnight. Almost 100% NC

If its not JFK-LAX/SFO it wont be a PS configured aircraft as the subfleet is designated to those said stages only.

This was my post from about a week ago. It supports several points already mentioned and questioned. I count 13 (757) in P.S. I was told that N558UA is in new colors but not the P.S. configuration although I haven't confirmed.

For those interested, here is the current list that I have regarding the new paint. Updated through photos here and witnessed in person. Any updates will be appreciated!  Smile

Saw a UA 757 in the new colours at SNA a couple of weeks ago. Doubt it was a P.S. plane unless it was a substitution (plane came in from SFO).

I wish UA flew mainline to MYR, that way you wouldn't be stuck in a smelly Saturn for 12 hours.

In advance, it is only PS if your flight is between JFK-LAX.SFO. At the airport, the plane has a little PS logo on the front if it is PS.

I used to think it looked distinguished and sophisiticated until I saw it next to the new livery. The blue/grey scheme looks dark and dull whereas the new livery is bright, cheery and clean. The mainline/Ted tail differing color schemes are a neat idea, too.

Thank you for the update. This information reconfirms my hunch which is that United's livery change seems to be going extremely slow. I was ORD last week and the only new livery I saw was UAX planes. Look at the numbers below and let me know what you think.

The livery change started about Feb. 2004, at least the earliest pictures I could find in the A-Net database is from that time. So...68 planes have been painted in 30 months. That is only 17% of the entire fleet. At this rate, all 397 planes listed above (not including TED and United Express) would take 175 months, or about 14.5 years. That means that United will complete it's livery change in Sept. 2018. I can't believe it would take this long, but...

Why is this so slow? I know the last livery change didn't take this long and that no other airline has taken this long.

I know adding TED and UAX planes would increase the rate, but it is my understanding that the TED planes were painted ahead of the regular schedule to get them in the TED livery and many of the UAX planes have been painted because they are new to United because they are with new regional carriers.

IMHO its because the fleet is smaller than the last livery change and as a result especially durng the summer months the fleet is basicaly doing what it does best and flying all the time and making money for UA.

You'll see a ramp up this winter as more heavy checks take place. In general outside of all the TED & PS aircraft, planes are not brought in simply for a repaint but instead done as part of heavy checks.

During the summer most of the equipment as UAL777UK mentions was busy out flying with minimal aircraft being out of service.

Bottom line is UA is not looking to take aircraft out of service needlessly and also incur additional capital expenditures just for repainting.

So, is United deferring some of the heavy checks until the winter when they have more available aircraft to take out of service?

I do not believe there are any Hawaiian staged B757-222OW in new colors, as they are the last B757s that United acquired.
