777 to 747's, is it true?

Mon Feb 22, 1999 2:32 am

Ok. Well, even though I do work at UAL, you think I would have heard about this, right? Well, I haven't heard anything yet. Is it true that many routes are becoming 747's that used to be 777's? That is going to be a pain for me! YUCK!!! Um, is the IAD-DEN route changing. And is it going to be the 747-200 or -400 thking the 777 place while the 777's take the internation places. Thankyou!

YEP!!! In this month's OUR TIMES, it talked about how we (UAL) were going to put the 777's on the Asia routes...mainly to KIX, NRT, etc. because of the cost efficiency (and capacity) of the 777's. According to THE BRIDGE (onboard newsletter-SFOSW), UAL will be installing pilot bunks, and also F/A bunks. THe F/A bunks will be above doors 2 and 3 R/L, and I have no clue where the Pilot bunks will be. Word is, though the F/A bunks will only be installed on new a/c.

I am not sure if the IAD-DEN route is going to change. Passengers really appreciate flying on the 747's, but it will depend on the 777 aircraft. Next time you fly, see if the 777 is an IGW...ie XI aircraft. If it is the XC, it will continue to fly domestic routes. (maybe not IAD-DEN) A lot of 747's are now flying out of SFO to ORD IAD, etc, but they are all -400's and will primarily be used for trans-con, and mid-haul (ORD). The -200's have been assigned mainly to HNL instead of the -100YZ, which are being rapidly retired. Hope this helps!! Write if you have any more questions.

Hey, whats your job at UAL? You can tell by my name I am a F/A, lol! I do know a lot about aircraft, and I do know that there is no upper lever. Do you mean the bunks are going to be in the cargohold? I asked about the IAD-DEN route because that route is mine for May, June, and July. The 747's are nice, but the 777's are so great! If you get any info, let me know. Thank-you! Bye

IAD-DEN 747 Territory Now.

Mon Feb 22, 1999 5:25 am

I am afraid that the IAD-DEN route will be switched to 747s. I believe it will be 747-200s not 747-400s but I am not certain. I think that UAL is switching some of the 200s of Pacific routes and to trans-con due to the increase in passenger needs. I distinctively remember reading that the IAD-DEN would become a 747 route. 747s are great don't worry.

I back searched the forum to see if it would have a post on United's IAD-DEN route. On 2-2-99 Cody stated that he read in the Washington Post or USA Today that United would use 747s from IAD to DEN. It did not state which model would be used.

No, I mean I guess for F/A's, the 747 is just as good as 777 facilities, but when I go standby (ya know what I mean?***) I have to go coach! Are the 747 (-200 or -400) comforatble in coach? thank-you CX747!!!

I don;t know if you guys know this, but Piliots and airline employee's (like me) get to fly free. But its not that easy! You see, we have to go stand-by with the rest of the world. My good frieds from college live out in DENver, so I like to go there, and I always enjoy flying the 777 in coach, with the PTV's and all, oh well. Bye =(

The 747s are quite comfortable in coach. There will also be more seats for you to work though. To me and others the 747 is the crem de la crem of aviation. You will enjoy working on this aircraft. *The 747 is the most favored aircraft of trans-atlantic passengers. So it will do great on the IAD-DEN run.

I am only 15, however my mom is an FA out of SFOI. She's been with them since 1972. The new bunks will be going OVER doors 2 and 3 R/L. I have no clue how they are going to do this. If you look in the 777 part of the handbook, and look at the exit path lighting, you will see a diagram of the 777 cutaway, and there should be enough room for bunks. My mom and all of her FA friends always are talking about how awful the 777 is to work, and how much easier the 747-400 OB is. My mom wants to know: How do you guys already have your bids for July?

747 PTV's

If the 747s are series 400 aircraft they should also have personal T.V.s in the headrests.

I looked at the flight schedules for May and June and both the 747 and 777 have flights scheduled from IAD-DEN. Flight 1135 leaves IAD at 8:35a.m. and is a 777. Flight 343 leaves IAD at 5:00p.m. and is a 747. Flight 296 leaves DEN at 10:30a.m and is a 747. It did not say whether or not it was a 747-200 or 400. I do wonder why the 777 doesn't have a returning flight to IAD. It may go on to the west coast or the computer might just have missed it but that is unlikely.

No video in seats

Mon Feb 22, 1999 1:17 pm

Only some of UAL's 747-400's (with new interiors) have personal video screens. If they do, the screens are only located in First and Business Class. Economy does NOT have screens, however, later this year, the first -400 to have screens in EVERY seat will be rolled out. For now, the majority of the 777's and the 767-300's have screens in EVERY seat.
