Anyone remember when they paved 4/22 and DL cancelled all thier ATL flights for 2 weeks because they didn't want thier 727's landing on r/w 10/28 ?
Yes, I remember that. Other carriers flew mainline a/c in and out of ROC
10/28 is open again? Did they finally plow down the mound of dirt around the tunnel construction? When I was home in August they had a big lighted X up on 28, and a massive dirt pile in the flight path.
In the summer of 1984, the county closed 4/22 to repave it. I think they closed one of the ends first and kept 6,000' of it open, but the whole runway was closed for awhile. I wrote a letter to the D & C arguing that they should pave at night, as had been done at DCA
not long before, and keep the runway open all day.
