Air Sahara (S2) To Fly From Delhi To Guangzhou!

Mon Sep 18, 2006 5:49 pm

Hello,

I could have put this within LAXDESI's Indian aviation thread. But I thought it deserved its own. Found at Air Sahara's website.

Starting 66 new flights, 14 new destinations on Air Sahara network
New destinations – Guangzhou, Male, Dhaka, Indore, Bhopal, Raipur, Khajuraho,Jodhpur, Udaipur, Thiruvananthapuram

Yadda, Yadda ... Guangzhou.. What the hell is going on at S2  Angry Do they really think there is enough direct traffic to justify direct flights? They are also not there in any major alliances.

They have also announced Delhi-Male direct flights. Had they stopped in any station of South India, it would have been more sensible.

Dhaka (DAC) is the only sensible destination (so it seems to me)

Well, there are non-stop flights between DEL-PEK and DEL-PVG and these from all accounts go fairly full, but when Indian English meets Chinese English... you can guess the confusion.
I'm sure S2's China flights will do well, but I really believe that a the third India-China direct should not have started from DEL but from BOM. Makes sense that BOM should also have an India-China.

Isn't southern China, around Guangzhou a major manufacturing hub.

Given the reports of KE operating full cargo aircraft ICN-BOM just with mobile/cell phones, then I suppose 55% load factor and full cargo may not be such a bad option to start with!

Maybe thats why they upgraded the flight from a 738 to a 763. A 738 might have been too little - but MU and CA flights don't go empty at all.

And Ernst and Young are doing their planning for them, but I wonder if S2 is still looking for a buyer.
