National used it until Pan Am took them over.
TWA used it for domestic ops until 1999/2000. Int'l ops were in Terminal 5.
The two were connected rather poorly with a covered walkway. Don't know when that came down . . . but it's been gone ever since TWA pulled out.
For a while after the pullout of T6
, TWA kept one gate for Tampa flights only. It was quite bizarre, but I'm sure it had to do with TWA fulfilling a lease obligation to the PA.
After the TWA pullout, UAL used gates 1-3 for LAX
Pan Am used the south rotunda. HP
, ATA, Air South, and Carnival used the middle gates. The terminal was very underused.
jetBlue initially used the south rotunda and gradually expanded north. Pan Am, Carnival, ATA, and Air South were long gone. Eventually, B6
UAL left after 9/11 and their significant pulldown in JFK
It's hard to believe that just a few years ago, the new terminal 5 was going to be built by United and have TWA as a major tenant.
TWA is long gone and UAL is down to a handful of flights to LAX
, and IAD
How times change.
