Tue Sep 19, 2006 6:59 am

press release to today from MOT regarding Harmony Airways to Aistralia and Fiji. I did not realize the Aus-Can Bi Laterall allowed such a service?

Well Canada 3000 used to fly the same sorts of routes.

But reading through the press release, it mentions codeshares with HA and FJ. Do they have any of their own metal?

Is there a Canada-Fiji market?

Definitely. FJ have been flying NAN-HNL-YVR for years with a 737-700.

FJ routemap as at 19 Sept 06.

This gives Canadian travellers the ability to visit Australia and/or New Zealand with the bonus of beautiful tropical Fiji as well (and vice versa for Kiwis and Ockers). Plus, there are those that are wanting just idyllic Fiji.

Damn code shares with FJ and HA !!!

Ban code shares !!!

If you can't fly the route with your own aircraft you shouldn't be allowed to have your code on someone elses flight as well.

Harmony has 4 757-200s. They also fly to Hawaii almost daily, so they are going to be connecting pax to HA's SYD flight.

It's actually a 737-800. The 737-700 is used on the HNL-CXI route.

Thanks, did used to be the 737-700 on the YVR route though.

How's that NAN-CXI-HNL route going, any idea? Does anyone fly to TRW, TNV and/or CIS as well? They used to have Air Tungaru (RT), is there anything else that's replaced it?

Actually if would love to see Harmony fly here on their own metal ... we don't see any 757s here ...

I didn't know FJ flies to YVR with 737s, hmmm makes it possible to do trans-Pacific from Oz on a 737!!! (And we thought 763s with AC was bad enough)

YVR-NAN-SYD is a great leisure route when you think about it.

rotfl  I like that ... the flaw with this logic is that there would be far-less point-to-point routes if there were no code-shares

There is a large Fijian community in Vancovuer plus it is a easy conection to BA for flights to LHR

Yes there is but it will not fill a 747......  Wink

Yes agree, I would not mind taking a 57 YVR-HNL-AKL with Harmony since they have quite a nice program going.

All power to code share... it made the world smaller and more affordable. Big grin

A significant Fijian Indian population lives in Vancouver- they started to arrive after the mid 80's coup. Canadian DC-10's used to sometimes include an extra NAN stop on the AKL & SYD routes.

FJ still does serve Tarawa- I think the route map above is not up to date.

CXI- this operation is paid for by the Kiribati Govt to ensure cargo links with HNL.

I wouldn't go that far, but there should definately be a ban on misleading headlines such as:

"DESIGNATION OF HARMONY AIRWAYS TO OPERATE SERVICES BETWEEN CANADA AND AUSTRALIA AND FIJI"

Harmony isn't operating anything past Hawaii.

They look like quite a good outfit hope someday they get some wide bodies and operate to Asia non-stop.

Good luck to Harmony.

Thats great to see. I know Canada 3000 did very well on this route, I bet Harmony will do just as good if not better.

Now I know I am not being realistic and that the damn code share are here to stay, but the following is an example of the code share to SYD and you tell me, being utterly selfish, what you would prefer to see and take photos of ?

Airline/Code share with
AF-QF
LH-TG/SQ/OS
KL-MH
UL-EK
SA)">AA-QF
SA-QF
MS-GF
KM-QF
AY-QF
LX-QF
OA-GF

LH, in particular is one airline which could easily sustain a daily flight to SYD, they code share on 6 flights a day into SYD alone, 3 SQ,2 TG and the OS flight, even with say 40 seats on each flight, thats 240 seats a day, easily would accomodate a daily 332/333/343.

Anyway, code shares are a pet hate for me, give me even a couple of flights a week by each of the above airlines into Sydney and I would be a happy camper.

Harmony just seems to be stalling for time. When are they going to start the China services that they have been promising for years?

Maybe they are using their fleet to establish themselves and then when they are on "good footing" they will order the big planes needed to do the Asian routes they have been promising. This (OZ) is a huge move for an airline the size of Harmony. It is only a matter of time before they take that next step.

Centrair,

Harmony are only code sharing with FJ to Nadi and HA to SYD, albeit there is some risk involved, but it's not likely to be a huge risk !!!

I got confused somewhere in my head on what was happening. So is Harmony's plan to just codeshare with a ton of carriers or eventually make a move to do international travel (beyond the US) themselves?

Does this mean that FJ will be dropping their HNL-YVR sector? If so do they increase NAN-HNL?

I doubt it. FJ would have to do some major rescheduling in order to make transiting in HNL work. FJ's HNL-NAN flight departs late at night, while Harmony arrives in HNL around mid-day. Even if FJ were to drop the YVR segment, their NAN-HNL flight arrives and departs to YVR in the early morning, well before Harmony's flight arrives in HNL.

If FJ and Harmony are going to codeshare they will have to do something to sync their schedules. FJ currently operates 3 weekly flights NAN-HNL. Two go on to YVR and the other goes via CIX. The HNL - CIX - NAN flight departs HNL at 1200 (after arriving at 1030). Shouldn't take too much tweaking to have all three flights terminate at HNL returning to NAN early afternoon. The PAX will likely need 3 hours (northbound) to clear US immigration but southbound they will have precleared in YVR.
