Delta CVG To Warsaw Over TXL?

Wed Sep 20, 2006 5:35 am

I have just read in a German aviation that there are rumors that DL wants to fly to Warsaw (WAW) from Cincinnati with a second stop which is esupposed to be either Berlin-Tegel, Stockholm or St.Petersburg.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Why in the world are they wanting to do that? Is there a large Polish population in Cincy? I know there are lots of German descendants in N KY, but Poles?????

I'd bet huge money against that. WAW, ARN and LED are all very likely as new destinations to be announced this fall, but CVG wouldn't be the gateway.

OK, and let me go ahead and squash that. No chance. Not even worth discussing.

WAW is a potential destination, as is LED. Both should be non stop from JFK. They already fly to TXL and tag-ons are very expensive.

Anyone know what the US-Russia bilateral states about frequencies and destinations, etc. for each side? DL already has 14 weekly flights to SVO during the summer. In any case, if DL were to start LED service, it would likely be at most 4-5x weekly in the summer...

Right, it may only be seasonal, tho I'm not 100% of the bilateral.
LED is one very strong rumor I've been hearing around the water cooler tho! If it actually happens, remains to be seen...

Haven't heard ARN. Remember, Delta likes big cities that don't have any other US carriers...

I'll second that! JFK-WAW and JFK-LED are strong possibilities next summer on DL. If DL starts any new Eastern Europe service it will likely be from NYC-JFK or ATL. I don't see anything new and exciting going into CVG from Europe on DL.

Yes, DL seems to have had a very strong aversion to ARN ever since pulling out post-9/11. The upcoming withdrawal of MH's 3x weekly ARN-EWR flights will probably not be enough inducement for DL to return to ARN-JFK either.

Agreed. DL would never service the route from CVG. If they were interested in this route, it should be from JFK. ATL maybe, but I dont think so.

DL used to route its LED flights via WAW as part of the FRA hub... inherited from Pan Am but even then did not have local traffic rights.

Euro cities involved will proably happen in time but very unlikely it woud be from CVG.

Panamair, why is that? ARN was a strong destination for both AA and DL, IIRC.

Don't forget OTP. DL also applied for JFK-OTP service recently as well.

LOT already has daily JFK-WAW and EWR-WAW, right?

Is there enough of a market to warrant a DL flight as well? AFAIK my EWR-WAW flight was far from full when I flew it in 2003.

Yeah, I think this way as well... ATL is the... THE fortress hub for DL, and JFK is a major int'l gateway for pretty much any airline serving it. New York has a lot of every culture as opposed to a "little bit" of everything, so naturally, the route would do considerably better if originating from JFK or ATL...

First things first, a flight out of CVG to Warsaw no way. Sorry but no. Why in the world would DL fly to WAW out of CVG?! If it's a seasonal route than maybe, but probably not. A flight to Warsaw would either go out of ATL or JFK.

Exactly, JFK would be most likely because it's not only a big Delta Hub but the int'l gateway to the world for planes. ATL also likely because it's "THE fortress hub for DL."

To answer that, no. There's no large Polish population in Cincinnati. Germans yes, definitely lots of Germans. My dad would know that because he lived in Cincinnati for a while and grew up in northeastern Ohio where there are lots of Polish people, particularly the west side of Cleveland.

I was at TXL a few weeks ago. While in Berlin I did hear that rumor a few times. However, however, it came across to me purely as german wishful thinking and a dream. I think the powers that be would absolutely love new TXL-USA service to another city other than NYC. However, I am sure that service to another city will be quite a ways off, many years from now.

Only possible way, I see it, would be TXL-ATL or possibly LH starting TXL-IAD again. Still that will be quite soemtime before that happens. CVG will not happen.

Maybe the flight number will originate in CVG, have a stop in JFK, and then fly on to WAW. Sort of like what other airlines do, like UA (i.e. Flight 936 ORD-(IAD)-ZRH). Just a possibility.

I don't think you wil even see TXL to ATL. Germany is a tough market for all carriers outside of Star. There are some niche markets like TXL but they just aren't that big. If TXL were such a strong market, don't you think LH would be providing it transatlantic service?
