Iranian Leader To New York

Wed Sep 20, 2006 8:34 am

I see that Ahmadinejad is in New York. Where did he fly in to (I assume JFK) and what on? For that matter, the same question applies to other world leaders (e.g. whoever cuba sent)... Anything on flightaware?

Whatever isn't at SWF is over here at TEB... We've had representatives from all over the globe the last few days (mainly those that can't afford their own 747's, but merely a G-V  Wink )

BTW if you check flightaware you'll notice that TEB's busy season is back and has been averaging over 60 movements an hour tonight... The same as what EWR is putting out

I would think that Thai could be ordered to fly that a/c back to BKK without the PM, leaving him to find his own way home or claim political asylum here!

I just got back from a long weekend and I read here that.. the Thai PM has been ousted? while he's away for the UN thing?!? Well hey, he went to Havana and then to NYC, so me went out in style.

On another note.. why is it it's Tue 19th, 10:10PM ET while imposting this and the post before mine is showing Wednesday the 20th already?

Because all the UN delegates were driving up the Van Wyck/ Grand Central from JFK the other day.

There were cops on every overpass for security.

I didn't know that SWF is the 'parking lot' of such aircraft after dropping off their leader's and related pax at JFK.
As to SWF, note the C-5's in the background. For those who don't know, SWF is also a NY State Air National Guard Base, whom have an operations base of a number of C-5's (seen as many as 5 parked side by side there - impressive sight) and other Military freight aircraft. As part military facility, SWF probably also offers considerable security structure and staff for such aircraft.

Iran's president flew nonstop in an Iranair 747-200 CCS-JFK on Monday's early evening. Here's a shot of my TV tuned to the goverment TV station where they showed the Iranian president farewell ceremony in CCS.

As I see the VC 25A on these pictures I am just wondering if the VC 25A is really needed on such a short domestic flight for the President and if something smaller like a C-40B (737), C-32A (757) or a even a C-37A (G-V) would have been a sufficient airplane.

The reason why I am wondering is because I have once read an article about the history of the 747 as Air Force 1 where it was stated that George H. Bush, the father of "W", was not very fond of the big 747 and in the beginning of his presidency prefered to travel by rail within the States or used smaller aircraft.
He had the opinion that it would not make a good impression on the American people if he is raising taxes and makes steep cuts in the budget and on the other hand flies with such a big airplane.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Both state visits were intended to bolster bilateral ties and sign many "cooperation" agreements. Which at the end is only an alliance between anti-US countries in order to fight US-Imperialism. Add Syria and North Korea too.

Some landed at EWR and TEB, but anything at SWF was ferried up, they wouldn't send someone by road such a long distance!

Why do they not helicopter them from the main airports to the Wall St Heliport? It would have saved a lot of traffic chaos!

It's about time SWF actually HAD some traffic.....

SOMEONE ought to get off their duff and recognize the potential ,market that SWF has to offer in the Hudson Valley and bring in some reasonable fare carriers...and upgrades to the perimiter and access roads

oh well

By the way, I think I saw that Thai 346 still being at SWF tonight on Wednesday. In a remote spot, but I believe I saw the tail. So maybe the now unemployed PM has paid for the ride to London by himself - or the crew just doesn't know whether to stay or leave.

Hey interesting, I was just about to ask that question. Russian news sources were reporting yesterday that Thaksin chartered an R4 IL-62 to get to London, but now reading this I guess that it was just some journalist dreaming.

Interesting thing about that A346 being back in Thailand.. So, it was chartered by the gov't only for Thaksin personally? What about all the other diplomats? Will they be going back on the TG JFK-BKK non-stop A345?
