DL To FDF

Wed Sep 20, 2006 9:42 am

Looks like Delta is starting Sat only flights from ATL-FDF Martinique on Dec 16th with a 738. Does anyone else serve Martinique direct from the U.S. Mainland? I have been away for a while so I apologize if this has already been posted.

Air France has service three times a week from MIA, with either one or two stops enroute. AF #3942.

As mentioned, Air France is the only other airline in the mainland US-FDF market. Although the routing has changed over the years, Air France has flown from Miami to the French Antilies for about 25 years now. The current routing is Miami-Port Au Prince-Pointe Pitre-Fort de France-Cayenne, 3x a week with an A320.

Forty years ago, in 1966, AF flew 707's JFK-PIP-FDF, and at that time, operated a fleet of DC-4's in the Carribbean. A few years later, AF introduced Caravelles to their Carribbean routes, including a multi stop affair to MIA.

I think AA served PTP or FDF quite a while ago, but the route was stopped due to insufficient results. ATL-FDF will be challenge dor DL. The good point for them is that they could benefit from the fact that most flyers from Guadeloupe and Martinique probably have an AF flying blue card and they will be able to earn miles on DL

Also, at least for the FDF-ATL segment, connections would be available to CDG (AF serves FDF via ORY), which gives a little more flexibility (not to mention plenty of Euro flights from ATL). While it's not as effective on the way back (standard mid-morning Caribbean departure from ATL), I wouldn't be shocked if there were some Euro connections heading out.

AA still flies to PTP, and has for a while, and resumed Fort de France last year. However, American Airlines has never flown to the French Antilies from the US mainland, always from San Juan.
