Upcoming AK 737-700 Flight

Next month, I will be flying from FAI to ANC on AS 160. When I booked the flight it was scheduled to be an MD-80, but it has since been changed to a 737NG. How do these aircraft compare with the rest of Alaska's fleet? Is the interior the same or are they using this aircraft to introduce a new one? What about seat pitch in coach? Thanks for any information you can give me.

You will find the interior of the 737-700 to be the same as the newer 737-400s and the older ones that have had the new seats installed. The only difference you may see is that the 700s have the extra first class seats that havent quite made it onto all of the 400s yet.

The newer seats are considerably more flimsy and thinly padded compared to the old seats, customer feedback has been very nagative. They are a substantial savings in weight however cutting several thousand pounds out of the OEW. The armrests on these things have been a particular problem, they weigh what feels like 2oz and break all the time!

The MD-80s are much more confortable and quieter not to mention having the prefered layout of 2x3. Up to the 261 crash, customers would go out of their way to fly the MD80 .

The seat pitch and width on the 700s are indentical to the 400s (32-33 inches, albeit with thin seat backs). The MD-80s have the same pitch and an extra 3/4 of an inch of seat width. However, the seats behind the exit rows on the port side of the MD-80 only have a 31 inch pitch in most rows. As far as the new seats, they are much more comfortable than the
old ones according to just about everyone I've talked to.

Thanks to both of you for your helpful replies. I booked that flight because it was an MD-80. I don't really want a 737NG. But with non-refundable tickets, you almost have to keep what they give you when they make an equipment change.
