Indian Airlines To Order Regional Jets

Thu Sep 21, 2006 5:56 pm

Indian Airlines is apparently considering an order for large RJs, namely the CRJ900 and Embraer 190 as B737-200 replacement at Alliance Air. Decision within one year. Anyone having more details?

Wow, the article is like a Bombardier ad... but good on them if it boosts sales a bit. I hope their sales team stay sharp and bring pictures of AC Jazz and LH CRJs as they look more inviting, from pictures I have seen here in the database.

'Planning to order' and 'Indian Airlines' in the same sentence should set off warning bells...

HAHA very true--and the funniest part is it mentions "decision in 1 year"

Maybe their next order will include the EMBs and their WBodies---maybe the A350---OK enough of jokes from my side for today.

Nevertheless i would love to fly an EMB 190 /CRJ with IC.

Honestly, after flying the E-170 when it came to India on a visit and the CRJ-200 on a S2 flight which almost never ended, I'll choose the Brazilian planes anyday. Plus, the PM did tell President Lula that India will look at buying more Embraer planes, given that the IAF just bought three Legacy planes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Indians went with the RRJ due to their ties to Russia.

Umm... close ties to the Soviets didn't mean we bought Russian aircraft. I mean other than the Air Force being fully Ruski-ised (save the Jags and Mirages), India's civialn fleet has never seen Soviet aircraft other than a couple of Tu-154 leased into IC inb the late 80's if I recall correctly.
Correct me if I'm wrong though!

Why would IC need to introduce a new a/c type into the mix? Don't they already have a bunch of 319s on order for the lower capacity markets? And they already operate a bunch of ATRs that are much more fuel efficient that the RJs. Hence I'm not sure if they would gain too much by adding another type to their fleet.

More than warning bells I think - just plain lunacy to bring those words together. They have a huge set of challenges right now - to do with the planned merger with AI, and on getting pilots fast enough for their current fleet of planned 320 family a/c.
Incredible India!

Think the order might be a suprise, while the article might say it will order CRJ's or EMB's, Rekkof is planning to start the F-100/70NG Re-production in India, because of a big investor in India.

Although we heard this a lot the last couple of years, it really looks like the Fokker planes will come back. The heavily modified planes (that's why i took another 1,5 years before relaunch) will be a bit superior to its competitors.

This is where BBD is at a terrible sales disadvantage -- they are reduced to comparing an 86 seater to the E190 which is a 106 seater under the same seat pitch. Even with the proposed CRJ-900x, you are still only talking about a 98-seater at the very most. Furthermore, it will have a far less spacious cabin than existing aircraft in that category -- DC9, F100, E190, 717, etc.

I would change "planning" tor "praying". It is far from a sure thing...

Cades Digitech managing director and CEO Dataram Mishra says from Bangalore that talks began with Rekkof “7-8 months ago and we have had 2-3 rounds of meetings”.

“It has not come to an advanced stage but we have done an evaluation and the talks are still going on,” says Mishra.

Mishra says that “we would have to make it for the overseas market as well to be viable” and improvements would have to be made to the original design to reduce operating costs.

“The Fokker aircraft are now in the last stage of their life cycle,” he adds.

Hahahahaha! And after what a Dutch Embassy official has been quoted as saying, plus the illegal confinement of 12 Indians in AMS last month, I'm not particularly sure that pro--Dutch sentiments are flowing through the Indian government.
