Lao Airlines To Open 3 New Routes

Thu Sep 21, 2006 6:12 pm

Lao Airlines will launch three routes to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia to link their major tourist sites, Lao News Agency KPL reported on 18th September.

Lao Airlines will on 4th October open a route with three flights a week linking the ancient capital city of Luang Prabang, a world heritage site, to Bangkok, capital of Thailand.

The airline carrier will conduct two weekly flights on each of the two other routes, linking to Vietnam's Hanoi capital city, starting on 29th October, and to Cambodia's northern Siem Reap province, beginning on 30th October.

Good to see QV expanding. They improved quite a lot since my first flight on one of their AN4 back in 1996. But still their managment seems to be a bit unexperienced. Just as a reminder, leasing an A320 wasnt really the smartest thing they have done and some other trial routes failed in the past. Still, linking LPQ with HAN, BKK and REP is a good idea but with the exeption of HAN competition is already there (PG).

I also wonder if replacing the two reliable ATR-72s with the Chinese Y-7 will help much. It might have been cheap to acquire and a political choice, but seeing the spares problems Zimbabwe and the chinese airlines have with it... And maybe less public confidence over Bangkok Airways service between Luang Prabang and Bangkok for instance...
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?
