I guess this would have actually been an Avro Rj-100 as opposed to a CRJ, being Mesaba.

Well, they DO have ONE CRJ in operation. Anyone know if it flies to SDF? The article does mention it was a 50 passenger flight/plane.

It's been an RJ85 for recent history:

The only thing here, though, is that the Mesaba flight wasn't cleared for takeoff and was only in position and holding. There was no threat...

Quote:
Elizabeth Costello, a spokeswoman for Mesaba Airlines, said, "This was not a near disaster or anything close to it." She said the flight had been cleared to taxi, not to take off, and was still on the taxiway.

"This has been grossly exaggerated," she said.

Now, if the flight WAS cleared for takeoff, then there would have been a big problem there. But other aircraft are allowed to taxi on runways with a departure holding. I think the media just exaggerated this story as if it was some sort of huge event, in wake of the recent accident.

Slow news day in Western Kentucky? Now we are not only reading about disasters, but near disasters which are successfully avoided? A mistake was made, and caught. The system worked. I wonder if certain individuals here will rail against the C130 pilots the same way they did against the Comair pilots on 5191.

From the linked article:

“The benefits of having extra eyes in the tower are huge,” Gilde said. “If there was only one controller in the tower, he might not have caught it.”

Nice slap at the FAA's higher-up's by one of their own.
