Airline Names And Logos In Photos: Copyright?

Sat Sep 23, 2006 3:44 am

I'm sure someone here can clarifly this issue for me. I am starting up my own travel web site/ publication and will most likely be using photos with commercial aircraft that I have taken. I have tried not to include any of the airlines names, coporate logos and possibly liveries by cropping the photos to eliminate them but sometimes this is not always possible.

As eventually I plan to make this website/ publication a business and make money using these images I assume that this would be illegal to use their names, logos or liveries without permission.

On the other hand, I think I might be taking this way too far, because photographers sell prints of their photos of liveried commercial aircraft on this very website and magazines such as Airliners are made up almost entirely of such photos. And in the end it is effectively free advertising for an airline.

So if anyone can fill me in on exactly how this works, it would be much appreciated,
