1st HP 757 Is Getting Painted In New Colors!

Sun Sep 24, 2006 3:23 am

Last night (friday) the first HP 757 was flown to Roswell, New Mexico to be painted into the US Airways colors.

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AWE7808

Sorry for the qaulity but here is the last picture you will ever see of this plane in HP colors.

This brings me to a question. Now that HP is starting to send planes over again for painting, is an employee allowed to ride on the ferry flights over or does there need to be flight attendants.

Thanks and cant wait to see the plane in phx

Are the special liveries (ie. N908AW) being painted in the new scheme too?

I believe its been discussed before...those are all going away. However, the move to add the Eagles A319 may mean a change in position on the matter.

The new US scheme is up there as one of my favorite contemporary looks. Timeless and classy. The new scheme can even make some of those wo-be gone US 737-400s look like they had the number 1 lifestyles of the rich and famous treatment. Many US planes in the black livery look like they had Earl Scheib $19.95 paint jobs. Just my 2 cents.

Isn't that tail 909 that went to ROW for painting? Was that pic taken at PHX?

According to my sources, that decision has not been made yet. They will be the last to get painted, if they do.

In fact, I thought the 757s would be painted after the 733s given that we still have a couple of 752s that need to get ETOPS certified. I don't believe 913, 914, and 915 have been ETOPS rated yet - if anyone else knows better please pass along.

Yes this was taken in PHX, unless they decided to change planes before I left work (which is possible I guess) it was ac 910

Are all the HP special schemes still flying around?

Anyone know when the Arizona Cardinals will be repainted? It will be a shame to see that beauty get repainted, as well as the other special c/s.

An HP 737-300 went to Miami today probably to get the new colors.

Pilot's discretion as far as I know. It's not a revenue flight. This is one case where knowing people helps. I have an open invite to check out ROW via ferry, just haven't found the time.

I seem to recall that 913, 914 and 915 will not become ETOPS certified.

Any particular reason why? Unless those are used for regular flights, they should be getting ETOPS certification. Thats my guess.

I don't recall exactly why...I think it had to do with not being built with ETOPS specific equipment and the cost involved to install. I seem to recall that at least one of the aircraft is equipped for "EW" (Extended over Water) which entails life-rafts etc. Maybe someone else here will have more accurate information.

I think it might have something do with aircraft age. These 3 are the remaining ex-Eastern birds, all built in 1984, 757 line numbers 35, 38, and 40. There are quite a few US-East 757's delivered new to US in 1993 thru 1995. line numbers 525-662, not including the 4 are already being converted. The difference in hours and cycles would be significant and with the two fleets being merged into one likely in 2007, so it would make since to convert, if needed newer former East birds that will likely remain in the fleet signicantly longer and be more reliable. Just my two cents !

I dont get why they send the 737's all the way to miami, why arent they done in ROW. Can an empty 737-300 make it non-stop?

By the way I think 909 was the first to be painted because it came back from ROW this morning so 910 is the second, I didnt know they had already sent a 757 over.

PHX-MIA is about 2000 miles ish..... I know a fully loaded CO 733 can do EWR-PHX and that's 2100 miles, so an empty one should have no problems with 2000 miles..

If there are any PAX, employee or other, on an aircraft there must be a flight attendant and they must give the full safety lecture.

Silentbob...How sure are you about your response? In my former airline days, we (as employees) frequently took ferry flights w/out F/A's. I do not want to argue with you because rules may have changed post 9/11, but when we moved our planes around, we never required F/A's onboard for employees

I imagine it's for painting since the only other time I've seen an HP 737-300 in MIA was about a month ago, to get the new c/s. It could be that Avborne heavy maintenance gives them a better deal than somebody else. For example, the 3 Varig 757s flew all the way from Brazil to MIA, and Avborne painted them for Air Union of Russia.. so now they have to go all the way to Russia.. Some months ago at least one ATA 738 flew probably from IND to Miami to get SpiceJet colors and then to India.

This 733 flew nonstop PHX-MIA so I guess it can.

Well gosh darn it, I guess I was flying illegally on all those 1900 flights I have taken...  wink

I was told by an HP pilot who is a friend of an acquaintance, that HP has cut one of the PHX - HNL flights while the HP 752s get US colors. He said those old HP colors and logojets are rarebirds already.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a flight attendant as there are obviously none on the Beech 1900s and other small airliners, and one of the pilots will simply do the briefing. Don't know what the requirements would be for company employees deadheading on a company aircraft but doubt a briefing would need to be done.

So then FedEx and UPS carry flight attendants? I doubt it. I have a feeling that there is an exception for Employees taking part in non-revenue movements.
