American Eagle Saab 340 Ferried ABI-MSP

Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:34 am

On Sept. 19th, an American Eagle Saab 340 was ferried from ABI to MSP. Anyone know what aircraft this is and what it is doing at MSP?

This is pure speculation, but XJ would probably be a good guess for its destination once at MSP. What XJ was doing with it is anyone's guess.

Do you know if it was a 340B+? Eagle is in the process of sending them back to the lessor.

Yes this is true and many of the SF3's have been in ABI for many years and have since ferried to MCI to the lessor as well. I havent heard any news about XJ taking any MQ SF3's though.

American Eagle doesnt operate nor has it ever operated the B+ model of the SAAB 340...
The only airline that ever took that plane was Mesaba.....
It might be going there for maintenance or maybe Mesaba bought it....

Mesaba has NOT bought any Saabs. They don't even own the aircraft, as NW maintains all of the leases for their Saab fleet.

That is not true, American Eagles does have some B+'s

Mesaba and AE are the only ones to operate the B+

My understanding is that the 340 B+, come about from one of the 9 or so airlines that now make up AE. They are being turned back to lessor. There are some 340's coming out of storage and being but back into service.

Some of the saab heavy check are also being done by AA at MCI

What...? Eagle had/has a large fleet of Saab 340B+ models...

Eagle Saab's are far too different then Mesaba's for that to make any sense.

Not true... anything over s/n:360 (ish) was a B+.

362 was the first B+. 373 was when they started producing mostly B+s, though 375, 395, 399, 419, 431, and 455 are regular Bs (mostly for the Swedish air force).

374-376
380-384
386-394
396-398
400
901

With the exception of 901, the tail numbers match up with the s/ns. 901 is s/n 401.

I didn't know those were even airworthy, given that they were sitting there because of significant structural damage from a hail storm.
