I remember as a kid in the early 70's flying MSY
on those beautiful Delta DC-8s and upon arrival and taxiing to the gate at SJU
as the aircraft was approaching the gate, a series of spotlights would illuminate the aircraft as it got closer and closer to the terminal. It was like there were sensors or a signal wire on the apron and as the aircraft moved across the ground it would trigger a different set of lights to light up and turn the previous ones off. I vividly remember this but have never seen at any other airport. It really added to the excitement to the friends and family waiting in the terminal to see the approaching aircraft lit up as it taxied to the gate. Haven't been back since 1974 so don't know if it is still done.
