The last one was for the government of a Russian autonomous region, and the second last one was for the...KGB !

You can find out more about that on www.flightglobal.com .

Sadly, I feel this won't be the case.

Some years ago, but those services have stopped.

Iran will probably the last, they ordered 20 new ones recently, which will be made of the gigantic sparepart supply.

I'm quite sure that's wrong. But they ordered about 20 Tu-204s, is that what you mean ?

Sorry I don´t have the source, but surely the Tu-154m seem to be on a revival.

Not sure if it is 20 Tu-154m's that were ordered, but just read today that 5 Tu-204-100 were ordered by Iran. That would be AWESOME if 20 x 154m's are ordered

Those (one or two)? were leased by Guyana Airways from Tarom briefly. But that was ages ago, like in the mid-80s. That's interesting though, because those were the only scheduled Tu-154 flights ever into the lower 48. Unless some socialist European nation flew them to JFK for a brief time during the 80s, but I don't think so.

And the last (and only other Tu-154 operators in the western hemisphere) were Cubana and Aeronica.

When was the last batch of civil Tu154s built?

According to 'Sovjet Transports', the last Tu-154M built is cn 01A1020, RA-85833. As the cn tells, it has been built in (20)01. Officially completed on 10 Oct 2001, delivered to Ural Airlines 03 Jun 2002, first revenue serivice to BCN 06 Jul 2002.

Cheers, Lukas

I'm sorry, but that's wrong. Many operators, including SU, are looking at replacing them or have already done so. Iran may get additional used aircraft, but certainly not 20 new ones. The most important reason why they still have them is American embargos. They prefer MD-80s or Airbusses anyway.

I flew on the ex-Aeronica plane a couple of years ago. It was flying for Mahan Air of Iran. The "last" Tu154M was recently delivered as mentioned above. I have also heard about the Iranian push to have a few more made. The problem is that the PS90 engines on the Tu204-100s are not well suited for Iranian operations. As the British refuse to sell their RR engines, Iranians are faced with a dilemma. The Tu154M have been excellent for Iranian domestic operations. Yes, there have been a few crashes but these were multi-factorial and probably not due to the design of aircraft itself. I have flown on the 154M frequently and have a generally pleasant impression of the beast.

But I have indeed found an article about 20 new aircraft for Iran.

It may sound exciting, but IMO the chances are quite low.

Thanks Lukas. We should enjoy seeing the -154s around for some more years then.
