What Type Of BA Aircraft Was Diverted To Halifax?

Wed Sep 27, 2006 10:06 pm

On Sunday night a BA flight LHR-BOS made an emergency landing in YHZ after a passenger gave birth during the flight. The news report did not specify the type of aircraft and no news pictures were taken.

Any info on the aircraft type? My guess is a 777-200ER.

I'm sure there are one or two B744s in pics taken on 9/11 2001 at YHZ

Actually CYHZ has 2 major runways,
05/23 (formerly 06/24) 8,800 x 200 feet (2,682 x 61 metres) asphalt / concrete AND
14/32 (formerly 15/33) 7,700 x 200 feet (2,346 x 61 metres) asphalt .
As you may see, both fit 744 requirements for an emergency landing.

btw: on 9/11 several 747 (LH and AZ) as well as at least one C-17 were diverted to Halifax. Maybe the terminal facility is not appropriate for such huge a/c, but at least the runways are...

YHZ has jetbridges, same as YYT.

Both airports are more than capable of handling a 747.

Scheduled commercial service and emergency landings are two things that should be regarded independently.

The C-17 is significantly smaller than a 747 and is built for 3000' x 90' runways.

Jetways don't really mean much. I have deplaned a 744 with airstairs on a scheduled LAX-FRA flight
