New GB Airways Routes: LHR-FAO, LGW-CFU/Mykonos

Thu Sep 28, 2006 3:45 am

Quote:
GB Airways, the British Airways' franchise partner, is to launch three new seasonal routes from London next May, the Cheapflights.co.uk website reports. The airline will fly from Heathrow to Faro and from Gatwick to Corfu and Mykonos.

Flights from Heathrow to Faro will operate daily from May 1 to October 28, with one-way fares starting at £65 including taxes. The service to Corfu will operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between May 4 and October 28. One-way tickets will start at £65 with taxes. Flights to Mykonos will operate twice a week (Thursdays and Sundays) between May 3 and October 26. One-way fares will start at £69 including taxes.

Good to see a new LHR route but will any existing LHR flights be dropped to make way for Faro?

Isn't GIB going from LHR?

Interesting to see JMK there, the home of Shirley Valentine.

I thought that was being replaced by a non-stop Marrakesh (as well as existing services via Casablanca)

I think GT is doing W flights to maximise it's LHR slots.

Wow! Wasn't really expecting to see JMK there! Good news though, only served direct once weekly by both AEU and XLA on a Friday!

Actually Cwldude, not quite correct unless you are talking about LGW-JMK flights only.

XLA also fly from MAN to JMK.

Overall great news for Greece from BA / GB. Now scheduled services to ATH, SKG, HER, RHO, CFU and JMK !!!

However am still surprised that they chose JMK before JTR which has charters from LGW, MAN, BHX, NCL and EMA, so more traffic from UK to JTR than to JMK ???

I think they hope to sell a good percentage of Club class seats to JMK, probably more than JTR.

Thanks for that, forgot about the MAN flight!

Maybe that's exactly why? Mykonos needs more seats whereas Santorini doesn't?

However the JTR market seems to be pretty much sewn up by a couple of tour operators, so may be less scope to grow the market.

Mykonos is better placed for linking to other Aegean islands than Santorini as a destination.
I don't like signatures...

GT has a sister company www.cadoganholidays.com which will probably add JMK as a new destination soon.

Good options for interesting flight and hydrofoil trips. Will these destinations be popular with BA frequent flyers in ATL or DFW for trips via LGW?
