"He Stinks!" Pour Perfume On Him! AA 918 Incident

Thu Sep 28, 2006 4:15 am

Gee, what's with AA passengers these days??? Addiditve in the soda???

Fair use extract:

MIAMI -- Authorities said a fight broke out on board a flight arriving at Miami International Airport on Wednesday morning.

American Airlines Flight 918 was en route to Miami from Lima, Peru, when, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a 56-year-old Japanese man and a 20-year-old man got into an altercation.

The FBI said that about two hours before the flight was scheduled to land, the Japanese man elbowed the passenger sitting next to him. Federal authorities said the Japanese man didn't think the passenger should be using an iPod in flight and complained that he smelled. He then poured perfume on the man, poured water on himself and vomited in the aisle, authorities said.

No charges were laid againts the Japanese man! The idiot Japanese deserves assualt charges.

Interesting that AA denied him boarding a day earlier due to his strange behaviour

Yet one more reason for an industry-wide, shared "do not allow to fly" list.

First time someone has to take a cruise ship across the ocean, or Greyhound from NYC-LAX to attend a business meeting, or family reunion... they might wish they hadn't gotten drunk, punched someone, tried to open the exit, etc.

I think just knowing such a list existed would make people think.

Well.... maybe not.

Could you imagine watching someone vomit in the aisle on a flight? I can't think of something that would freak me out more!

And on Tuesday I had a spoiled 13-year old female student arrive to my class tardy and announce, "it STINKS in here!!" and then proceed to spray the area with perfume.

It wasn't Chanel Number Five.

The full moon doesn't arrive until Saturday, October 7th, but the crazies are already out.

For all that there is a vomit bag in everyseat, It seems that people vomiting on flights is very rare (THANK GOD!!!). I freak out when I see people throw up on the ground, even more so in the air.

It's not that rare. Especially in 1st/biz classes where they bring the booze around a lot. Some people just don't realize that drinking at altitude makes you drunker/sicker and they see the open bar as their free ticket. Personally got puked on by a Swedish lady on IB from MAD>JNB because they wouldn't cut her off. Reaally nasty. That stench just doesn't come out.

Except the pax next to you puking on you. Had someone puke into the aisle about three weeks ago on AS PHX-PDX. THAT was the carny flight from hell. Had a 90 year old woman in 1B babbling at full shout about her new TV from Wal-Mart and her 'apartment'. Poor seatmate feigned sleep but it didn't stop her. Then the guy behind me in 3E blew chunks from his seat into the aisle.

The FA didn't miss a beat and was awesome about everything... (nicely) made the pax clean up after himself "Sorry, I have to handle food, I can't help you clean that..." (as if she should've been EXPECTED TO!) and handed out $25 courtesy certs to everyone affected in the cabin.

HAHAHAH that reminds me of the smelly african man that was sitting behind me for 19 hours on my flight from IAD-JNB. I was about to hand him my stick of deodorant!

Incidentally, I fly the Miami-Lima route all the time since my family is Peruvian. My aunt was actually coming back on the flight this incident occured. She just said that the Japanese man was being very loud and after he vomited, some of the passengers sitting around him stood up to go towards the galley while the flight attendants cleaned up. Those stuck up Peruvian based AA flight attendants were probably pissed, they don't put up with sh** from anyone! (although I have to say their service is excellent!)
Prepare for take-off.

If we are going to talk grossness, when I was a United flight attendant, I'll never forget working a DC-10-10 on ORD-LAS. We hit continuous moderate turbulence all the way down from about 25,000 feet. I was sitting at 1R, but was cleaning up the coach galley when we hit the turbulence. I managed to crawl to an open seat in one of the last rows of coach, but many of my flying partners landed on their hands and knees in the galley.

And then.....everyone started to get sick. During deplaning, I was literally pulling my rollerboard through vomit in the aisle. I didn't know if I was going to make it to the terminal bathroom I was so ill. The most humorous moment was when the most glamorous and coiffed woman on the crew lost it in the little rail tram that takes you from the airside to the main terminal. She motioned to everyone to stand back as it happened! We had a 20 hour layover and I spend most of it in bed.

Anyway - good luck to everyone still out there - especially who worked AA65 or AA918. It just gets crazier....

This reminds me of my time in Viet Nam as a crew chief on a CH47 Chinook.

There was an unwritten rule that everyone was aware of that if you lost your lunch in flight you were either expected to clean up the mess or pay the crew chief to do it for you.

I, my flight engineer, and my gunner were actually paid twenty-five dollars each by a one star to clean up his mess. We didn't mind a bit!!

Cheers and Keep 'em flying!!

It would freak me out a LOT more to have someone dump perfume on me. That might be enough to cause me to become violent! However, I'll continue to consider myself lucky to not have seen, heard, or smelled anyone vomit in flight!

Reminds me of a flight I took from SAN to LAS... obviously everyone was excited about going to Vegas, and the woman sitting right behind me thought that the celebrations should start before boarding at SAN. If I remember correctly I was flying America West and this particular woman was making a whole lot of conversation with her neighbor during the entire 1 hour flight. Suddenly as we were decending into Las Vegas the entire cabin went quiet (i.e. she shut her mouth) and the next thing I sensed was that awful smell. Man, I pray that none of you have to go through the lovely sights and smells of pre-Vegas celebrations by those who just can't wait to start drinking!!!

Imagine it? I SAW it firsthand on a CO flight from CUN to IAH. Woman got halfway up the aisle, puked, and then passed out, collapsing face-first into it.

This was about 25 minutes out of IAH - two flight attendants got on their hazmat gear and tended to her as we descended into IAH, where paramedics met the plane.

No charges were filed, but authorities said American Airlines denied boarding the Japanese man a day earlier because he had been behaving strangely.

That Japanese man needs to be banned from flying. Getting elbowed for using an iPod? I think I'd attack that guy.

Sounds like this guy had mental health problems long before he boarded, on a crowded flight, probably somewhat intoxicated, a bad combination. The perfume could be a very serious problem as someone could be very allergenic to certain scents or chemicals in them and if they have an asthmatic or other respiratory problem that could put them at risk of death or severe illness.
As to incidents of vomiting by passengers except due to turbulence problems, you do have people who may have been exposed to contaminated food or drink before boarding, have fears of flying, have emotional problems that put stress on them long before they got on the aircraft, overdo alcohol or other beverages before or during their flight.

I suppose if the slippery aisle posed a safety threat, the cabin crew would be obligated to clean it.

Soooo many flights Sooooo many smelly persons...

One that sticks out is my flight between LHR and Tashkent in Uzbek Airlines. (sorry I can't remember the short names) I was sitting in 1st class and I could still smell the guy behind me. I know garlic is a widely eaten food but gezzz it smelled like the guy had been taking garlic baths. I can easily tolerate a bit of garlic but wow...even the FA's were avoiding him.

And I've seen the chain reaction "heave" in action. On a flight from MAD to ORD we spent a few bumpy hours (it seemed) over the great lakes and on the other side of the really beat up A340-200 we heard the 1st of the heaves and at least 10 more passengers followed along. The FA's had to get up and give out more of the puke bags...it almost got to me but I was able to distract myself and not get sick.
I feel the need to go screaming through the air in a pressurized metal(??!??) tube...

I make at least 15 round trips a year including 2 very long hauls. I have been doing it for the last 5 years and I have seen someone use the bag ONCE!!! And it was on a landing in DEN during a thuderstorm. I have joked with a friend who is a flight attendant with UA about it and he tells me this:

People thorwing up on board is common on:
Flights to Tourist Destinations (i.e. MCO and LAS)
During horrible turblence
On flights that are very long haul during decent.

It is un common on:
Flights to Business destinations (i.e. ATL and DFW)
On Larger aircraft
Smoother flights

He also said it is less common in the winter for some reason.

He says that in his experiance he has to deal with it on average "once a month"

This is a generalization, but im intested to hear a reaction to this.
It is what it is...

I fly non-stop BUF-MCO very often on 733's and have gotten lucky, never had anybody sick.

Is there any reason people get sick more often on these flights?

Is there any reason people get sick more often on these flights?

My guess is that flights to business destinations carry people who are used to traveling and who do it frequently. They know how to fly and are used to it.
On tourist destinations, you have lots of kids and people who never fly. They might not be used to it.
It is what it is...
