An225 At MAN Today?

Sun Oct 01, 2006 8:40 pm

I was checking the Ringway Reports website and notice that the An225 was expected in after lunch today. Can anyone tell me if this massive plane has visited MAN before?

Many thanks,

Understand destination is Lagos (Nigeria) from 1 forum and Punta Cana (Dominican Rep) from another, so take your choice!!!

Hey guys and gals (Lew),
I got word from OLY720man, in the Manchester UK News 7 thread, that the AN225 was coming to MAN this afternoon so I made the mad dash down to the airport to go and see this beast of an aircraft.

Anywho, I didn't have my DSLR with me but I got a few pics that I can share now. Of course, expect to see a hundred decent photo's in a few hours/days but for now, three of mine plus a video I made with my little camera!

oh cock. thats too early. It would mean having to fly up tonight to see it, which would then mean a hotel room, or if I drove I would have to leave in the early hours of the AM !!!.

Umm decisions decisions - do I really want to see it that much that I would drag my lazy a$$ out of bed in the middle of the night to drive over 200 miles.........umm. I'll have a think about it today.

You guys are in for a treat when you get to see that big iron mutha. It came here in the middle nineties along with one of the four engined jobs, they were carrying some equipment for a rebar mill that IPSCO was building up in the northeast corner of the state. Apparently it was from an Austrian mill and it was reconditioned over there.

I was sitting at home when I heard what sounded like the biggest washing machine ever invented loaded with scrap iron going overhead. I knew what it was immediately and as I headed for the door a shadow blocked out the sun and I saw its underbelly going over the house. Later on i went down to the airport and it was parked out by the UPS terminal on the south side. I did not have a camera, dammit.

Right myself and Captain Ben will be arriving at Man around 0600-0630.

We will probably be at level 13 of the car park until the AVP opens, when we will go there. Is it parked round by the cargo sheds, so we can see it from the top of the car park ?.

Anyone got a more definate idea of the time ?.

Still 0700 on A.net and 1100-1200 on PPrune !!.

Plenty of 124s available, but this 225 is going nowhere near to PUJ. MAN-Lagos should be it's routing apparently, with stage equipment for some kind of concert.

Hi,

We're (Manchester Handling) handling the a/c during it's stay at EGCC. It's expected to depart in the afternoon Tuesday 3 October... last time I looked I think it was around 1600L.

We've got one of our guys (Tony S) out there taking photos of it. He doesn't upload to a.net anymore though.

Actually apparently they're all busy hence why the AN225 has being used.

There seems to be a lot of varying stories of what is going on here. I've heard from sources at MyTravel it's going to PUJ via TIP with an A332 engine and then others saying it's going to LOS with concert equipment ala Gkirk and his sources. There's then reports it's due to taxi at 1140 and takeoff at 1210 from 24L or later on at 1600.

Oh the joys! Big grin

As I said... 1600L. We are the company handling the a/c and despatching it so obviously we have to know the correct times for it's departure to arrange everything (we're also dealing with the crew).

There is a 0% chance it will depart before lunch time.

Has that time now been inputted into AMOSS? The blurb coming out from those with access to AMOSS posting to various newsgroups are the ones suggesting 1200.

On this thread is another report of 1200, and if I know the person making that statement, he should be in the planning dept for MAN.

If it was put back from 0700 due conflicts with other scheduled aircraft needing the runway at the time, surely it would also impact on those aircraft that need to depart at 1600? Why not just make it go sometime between 1200 and 1500, with it being the sole departure of 24L during that time and causing no disruption for other departures!

First time I managed to co-ordinate being off work with something "interesting" being in, and having seen it arrive, I shall be sat at home, just waiting for it to lift off! Doesn't matter if it's 0700, 1200, 1600 or whenever, I shall be waiting.

Oy! No chav here! If everything goes to plan, my checking in for my 1st flight will be either 12th Oct or 13th Oct (depends whether a certain blonde German wants me to stay 3 nights or 4!).

The job description for a PSA entails much more than Checking In  Wink The things we have to do...lol Anyway onto the AN225, I've heard its departing 2100z (2200BST) that would be before they close 24R to do the scheduled maintainance, but also due to the noise restrictions (i.e. aircraft B747 size wise cant take off after a certain time) that it won't be departing til 0700z (0800BST) tomorrow. I'm going with the latter.
