"D" At Atlanta?

Mon Oct 02, 2006 6:33 am

Hi folks,

I remember flying out of Atlanta a few years ago and listening to Channel 9 on my UA flight to ORD, and because Delta is such a major presence there, they don't refer to things such as taxiways as "Delta", but rather another "D" word. Does anyone know which word this is, I completely forget. Thanks!

On the train between concourses at ATL, they say, "A as in Alpha, B as in Bravo, C as in Charlie, and D as in David, E as in Echo." Because Delta is such a major presence they deemed it necessary to say something else than the typical plane protocol so not to confuse passengers.

In addition, the reason why Concourse D is not "D as in Delta" is because most of the flights in Concourse D are by airlines other than Delta.

When I flew into and out of ATL from the "D" concourse, I found that fact very ironic...made me wonder why they didn't move Delta to those gates or relabel the terminals... Then I realized how stupid it would sound on the train (T A B C D E is confusing enough to pax as it is)

Not to mention avaition profesionals "Oceanic 724, hold short of Delta"..."Which Delta?" (ok, so that exact dialog may neve happen, but still...)
