At MSP it will be MSP-YQR(Regina Canada),flight 3588, on Oct. 29th. The ARJs will fly from DTW until Dec. 18th. Don't know the acutal flight, sorry.

I was on one of their RJ-85's back in January. EWR-MSP...was a quick little plane getting off the ground, loved the landing configuration of the wing Big grin

I traveled DTW-STL twice on a RJ-85. Once in F and once in K. I enjoyed both trips. I will miss seeing the RJ-85 flying over my house.

RJ85 is a wonderfully comfortable plane for the passenger, in either first or economy - because of the extra row of seats gone - but it is a slow, pokey plane -

Hi everyone.

I will miss the RJ85.

To me, it has always had the feel of a "widebody" regional aircraft. It has also been one of the most fun to fly.

I prefer smaller, single-aisle aircraft when they feature some width, and, this wonderful bird fulfilled that requirement with style.

This particular aircraft is also visually stimulating in a world filled with an increasing number of more traditional twins. The high-wing four-engine design has always been pleasing to the eye.

I hope these fine airplanes have a long and prosperous life ahead of them.

Blessings, N31029

Most of these aircraft are headed over to Europe, where their performance is better suited to the route structure of many of the short-hop regionals.

While the Avro's were a passenger favorite at NW/XJ, allowed for high yield ASE service, and fit a niche before the introduction of the new generation of E-jets, they are now obsolete in NW's route structure. They were never designed to fly routes like MSP-SLC economically.

That said, on the last full day of operation, Monday Dec. 18th, the Avro's will serve (from DTW): CMH, CVG, MBS, GRB, ROC, SDF, YUL

The last 2 departures out of DTW will be:
NW 3542 DTW-YUL Dep: 9:13pm Arr: 10:55pm
NW 3514 DTW-ROC Dep: 9:33pm Arr: 10:43pm

So, the last departure out of DTW will be to ROC, but the final flight will arrive in YUL.

This is all tenative at this point, until the schedule if finalized over the next few weeks.

SO is Dec. 18 the last day of service for hte Av/RJ/BAe in the USA? DOes anyone else fly them in the US?

I flew on the 142 back in 2001 on Qantaslink, and again this past July on QantasLink. Great aircraft, great lookiong and so unique. Remember the interior middle of the aisle, where the ceiling drops in and it says, "Mind Your Head"? Cool plane.

Don't forget the fact that the seats are the widest in the NW/XJ/9E fleet  Wink

I Always thought the RJ was the best looking regional aircraft. To me, it looks like it has some real substance.

The RJ seats were great. The aircraft felt, and probably is, much roomier than the CRJ. I wish I had more chances to fly on an RJ.

Sorry if I'm a day late and a dollar short here, but when did UAE get rid of them?

I think it was back in 2005 after Air Whisky Dropped UA flying and switched to US flying.

AWAC kept about 4 flying to the very end for UA* just for Aspen ski peak this past winter, to about 4/3/2006 or so. In addition to DEN-ASE and LAX-ASE, they ran a daily 146 trip ATW-ORD-DSM-DEN and DEN-CID-ORD-ATW just to rotate them back to Appleton for maintenence.

My sister went on a RJ-85. She said there was a lot of turbulence. She no longer liked to fly. She was going from SLC-MSP.

I can;t think of any other airlines that operate them within the US. So I do believe that the NW flight will be the last of the type in the US.

You are correct. It is a fine looking bird, and very smooth. Curves that make you go "WOWSA", and those gears..... Oh those gears..... MMMMMMMMMMM. And when those flaps come down, oh yes, nothing like when they go down! That plane penetrates through those soft clouds, and climbs like a rocket.

I miss them already!!!!!

.... Mountains.... Flying over the rockies is some of the most turbulent flying out there. The 146 was a great aircraft, new paint and interior and it would have served United into the Future. Instead they replaced it with an aircraft not nearly as capable for the mission profile. Crj-700s to ASE, good luck.
