LAX-TPE On EVA Air's B777?

Mon Oct 02, 2006 11:52 am

Hi everyone..

I was browsing EVA Air's website and found out that they're gonna start using the B777-300ER for LAX-TPE route. Does anybody know when (date/time/flight#) is the first flight?

A big THANKS!  Smile

As far as I know, one of the TPE-LAX flights (I think it's the 3/week flight) has been the 773ER for quite some time now -- the third 773ER was delivered prior to the Farnborough show and has been in revenue service since returning from the show.

Oops...I'm kinda out of date here. Sorry! But thanks for the info! I'm going back to Taipei quite soon to visit during school's winter vacation! Debating whether I should fly from LAX or SFO... Big grin

Enjoy your trip -- but I'm not sure that winter's the best time to visit here -- all it seems to do is rain!  Smile

I've taken Eva's 77W on shorter stage lengths and from that I'd say it's worth the trip down to LAX to take it to TPE. I'm doing the same thing in a few weeks. Also highly recommend the Elite Class (aka Evergreen Deluxe on the 74M) over standard Econ - it's worth the relatively small extra cost.

How would you rate Elite Class on 777 versus Evergreen Deluxe on the 744/74M ?

I was a huge fan of Deluxe, did not have the opportunity to try Elite, but the pictures I saw on the net were not so enthusiastic.
Avoid 777 with 3-4-3 config in Y ! They are real sardine cans. (AF/KL for example)

Hey! Thanks for the inputs...now I think I'm definitely gonna fly out from LAX. I've been on B747's Evergreen Deluxe and I liked it very much so I think this time I'm gonna try the Elite Class...though I might have to save up some meal money to get the ticket. Big grin

Thanks!

I thought I heard that EVA was going to send their 777s to SEA. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I like the Evergreen Deluxe class also. Main difference is that the video/audio is better (larger screen, noise canceling headphones) on the 77W. The seat is thinner giving you the feeling that your pitch is larger. But I'm not sure how the thinner seat does for long flights as I've only experienced it going TPE-BKK at approx 3.5 hours. But I'll know for sure in a few weeks when I go LAX-TPE. One last thing, Elite class is in the middle of the plane so you either have a wing view or an engine view. I truly could not believe how big the engine was until I sat next to hit. Amazing.

In a previous press release, EVA said they will send their 777s to LAX, SEA, EWR, SFO, and CDG in that order.

I'm not sure about the timeline.

In other news, EVA sent its first Boeing 747-400 (Registration: B-16412) to Israel for cabin refurbishment.

It's interesting that wouldn't get done through some arm of Evergreen at TPE... they seem to do everything else under the sun.

I think they are already flying the 773ER on LAX-TPE sector. I shot this at LAX two weeks ago. You can see the 777 behind the 747. It was sceduled to depart LAX shortly after 1am.

Does that mean they will no longer need to stop in Anc in the winter month for fuel with the 773ER or they have the same restriction as the B744?

Interesting question. The 77W has about 620 nm more range than the 747-400. So, maybe its possible that an ANC refueling won't be necessary. However, even with the 747, the refueling was only necessary on some flights. I'm sure someone has more insight.

Since the SEA flights continue on to EWR, how could they put 777s on TPE-SEA before EWR? Wouldn't they have to come on together? Unless EVA is planning some route restructuring. This will give them the clear advantage over CI on SEA-TPE.

TPE-SEA-EWR is flown by B744. so no huge advantage in using the B777.
TPE-LAX is major revenue and the fuel savings alone justify them bringing the B777. More will be introduced as they receive more B777 hopefully with the LR they will inaugurate TPE-EWR non-stop!

I flew EVA's Elite Class last year from TPE to BKK on the new 773 and it is definitely a big improvement over the Evergreen Deluxe class on the 744s.
I really like the AVOD. I was able to start watching the movie before the plane took off and there are more options compared to the old in-flight entertainment system on the B774s. The cabin felt brighter and bigger. The only thing I didn't like was the number of restrooms available for the Elite Class. There are only two bathrooms available for all of the 63 Elite Class passengers. I can not imaging how these two restroom is going to be like after 12 hours of flight. I hope EVA expands the Elite Class on the 773s they get later on.

I flew on Singapore Airline's 772ER from LAX to TPE once and I like the feeling of flying transpacific in a smaller plane rather than crowding with additional 100+ people in a 744.

I should try EVA Air this time going to TPE.  Smile

Thanks for all the inputs!

With the 773ER, stops in ANC for fuel will be very rare.

Foppishum, you had it right the first time! STick with the SQ service, absolutely delightful! the IFE cant be beat and delicious edibles..also the flight leaves so late (its SQ 30 i believe) that its impossible to not pass out for a large chunk of the flight! Nothing against EVA, they have lovely service as well, however, their food leaves a little something to be desired. Either way, both airlines have far superior quality than the US/Canadian carriers to asia. I've had a couple transpacific horror flights on AC and KE, but EVA wasnt one of them!! its not like you're choosing between BA and Ryanair! Should be an enjoyable flight, however landing in rainy taibei at the hideous zhongzhengjichang in winter isnt exactly ideal...

I have flown both Elite and Deluxe. Elite is brand new and on the 777, but in my opinion, I always felt more comfortable in the older Deluxe class, the Elite class recline is less and actually its like a roller style recline, your not really reclining the back seat much. I prefer the back seat reclining more on the Deluxe chair than just moving my seat angle as on the Elite seat. IFE screen is a bit bigger on Elite, but same options.
