Airports With Only One Airline Using Widebodies

Wed Oct 04, 2006 3:21 am

This thread is not intended to be a poll. Does anyone know some airports that have widebody service with only one airline? The only ones I know of are LGA and JAX, where Delta is the only airline using widebodies (767-300s) to those destinations.

There's no KL at MSP, so MSP is on the list.

WAW
SLC
CVG in the winter
BWI is close, though UA is flying 763s in there from ORD right now
MEM

MCI gets wide body UPS and FedEx jets. I'm don't think any pax carriers operate wide bodies out of there any more unless you count the occasional football charter. Since smaller planes have gotten longer and longer range, frequency is king at MCI. In the 70's I know at least TWA, CO and DL operated L-1011's and DC-10's out of here.

SJC sees (or saw) only an AA 777 for the SJC-NRT service. May be gone now though.

Is BA the only widebody carrier left in PHX? I thought LH pulled out, and I can't think of anyone else in there using Widebodies. WN and US obviously don't, UA is all TED, DL is probably no bigger than a 757, AA is all MD-80s and 737's, NW doesn't run any and neither does CO. I could be wrong on this.

Don't know about cargo, but regarding a/c with pax onboard..:

AMD (Ahmedabad) is only served with widebodies by AirIndia as far as I know, however, it is served by no less than three widebody aircraft from this airline; the A310, the 747-400 and the 777-300. Quite impressive actually for this small airport!!

HEL (AY MD11s and the newly added 340)

SFJ and UAK are only served by Air Greenland's sole 330-200.... but OK, a very special case here..

Kevin777

Edited because I mistakenly included a 757 as a widebody... well done, Kevin..

Currently just BA and Hawaiian. Can anyone confirm if the lack of DL 767s is just a seasonal thing or are they gone entirely? Besides that there's FedEx and UPS for cargo, plus whatever anyone decides to charter when playing the Cardinals.

In repeating what others have listed, HA will be the only commerical carrier using a widebody (763) at SJC after AA pulls the 772ER service. Which is a shameful non-use of the extended runway and the re-build of the taxiway. Anyway, of course UPS has a 763F and FedEx has their 3-holer (not sure which variant) and an A306 (not sure if it's a A310). But I believe you can actually match what type of plane(s) FedEx sends to SJC to the status of the Silicon Valley economy. In 1999-2000 FedEx had -2- 3-holers at SJC, after the dot-com bust and 9/11, they only needed -1-. Then as the economy picked up in the Valley around 2003-2004 FedEx sent a 727 along with the 3-holer. Then around the second half of 2005 the 727 was replaced with an A300 (again, not sure if it's a A310). It's kind of similar to a little financial theme I heard once about Silicon Valley and car traffic - SELL when traffic is unbearable and BUY when you own the road.

ELP only gets widebodies from FX nowadays...  Sad The occasional Luftwaffe A310 drops by every now and again for ferrying troops to Fort Bliss.

They actually had 3 wide-bodies each evening in the late 90's -- MD11/DC10 to MEM (1219), DC10 to IND (1649), and Airbus that came from ANC (flight 86) and left for ORD, of all places (I think the flight number was 1020).

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas we will have 22 heavies per day. 747's, DC10's, MD11's, 767's and probably even some A300's. Should be quite fun!

SDF: The only widebody operator here is, of course, UPS. 747, MD-11, 767, A300, you see them all. All we get from the pax airlines are CRJs, ERJs, 737s, DC-9/MD-80s. Once every ten blue moons we get to see a pax widebody.

Actually, Michel Z4's transatlantic flights are scheduled.

YQR and YXE only have TS widebodies in the wintertime. YFC will be getting their first widebodies ever this winter, again with TS. Now that AC widebodies are gone from YYT, YYT only has 1 widebody operator, TS, yet again. Same with YQB losing Z4, only TS is there too with heavies.

I would be OK if they put an Eagle flight on a new route like ELP-LAX, but if they ever put Eagle on ELP-DFW or ELP-ORD I'll cry.
