Air Madrid Problems?

Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:47 pm

Hello all!!

Been watching the spanish news at night and seems like since the end of September they have been reporting constant delays that Air Madrid is having. We are talking daily delays of 12-15 hours mostly on flights to South America due to aircraft being out of service. I believe they said that 2 are in maintenance and another 1 is out of service for repairs. Can anyone confirm what is going on? Yesterday the had an amateur video of pax staging a "sit-in" in front of the Air MAdrid counters cause they were not being given any information or hotel or meal vouchers.

Today I heard there were 4 AM A/C out of service!! I have a friend stranded in Colombia for the last 36hrs and he is still waiting for Air Madrid to get him out of there.

I hope it works out as it seems to be rather a mess at the moment,

I wonder if this will fall under the "force majeur" excuse category when it comes to compensation for the pax...  pessimist

I see they've already dropped their new MAD-TLS route which they widely advertised before it was even supposed to start at the end of this month. Not surprised though, as AF already operate the route twice daily and IB have 5 or 6 daily flights, so I wondered what Air Madrid would do with a single daily flight. And the fact that Esayjet just announced they'll be starting MAD-TLS-MAD as of February I'm sure had a lot to do with it.

Just during the last couple of weeks they had a 17 hour delay and a 11 hour delay on the MAD-EZE route, so I can imagine overall. And as if problems were not big enough, 4 days ago, on the EZE-MAD flight, they had to declare an emergency and land in Cabo Verde. I have not followed on what the emergency was and for how long those poor pax had to wait before another aircraft could take them home. What I read also is that the company is under investigation by Spanish authorities (no further details on why they were being investigated).

Air Madrid asked for ETOPS 180 minutes and has denegated due serious problems.

Novair will reposese its 330 wet-leased to the spanish airline and Swiss is thinking to take to the Courts because Air Madrid signed a contract to buy a pair of ER4 and now has said NO.

When has NM not had any problems?  Wink

That's nothing compared to the over 30 to 40+ hour delays from last year. It took them hell to get back on track, yet they seem to have slipped once again.

That could be the likely outcome.

NM is simply a mess. I'm still surprised they can continue on like this. Are they even profitable?

NM is more a joke in bad taste than an airline.

Even an ETOPS-120' is too much for this mediocre carrier.

A good advice: NM must be avoided as far as possible. And not just because dreadful service but also due to a safety reasons. This "airline" has a record in emergency landings ...and they are a carrier with less than 5 years old. This is a fact more than significant, I think.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I rather fly FR than NM. At least FR has a very good dispatch reliability and good on time performance.

... and here we go again:
flight NM 1231 landed today at EZE with a 14-hour delay. As a consequence, flight NM 1232 suffered a similar delay for its EZE-MAD flight.

There's a link to an interesting article regarding the Cape Verde tech diversion of the NM flight from EZE.

Link (in Spanish): http://www.clarin.com/diario/2006/10/02/um/m-01282647.htm

As you said, not much is said, but there seems to be an interest on the part of the Spanish DGAC (or Spanish CAA) to see if NM is also complying with EU regulations regarding passenger compensation for delays.

If they continue like this, it will only be a matter of time until NM gets its AOC revoked.

Somebody need to pull a value-jet on them. Buy the assets rebrand and rebuild. The South American market is huge and needs the lift. Hopefully unlike Value-Jet we don't have to have a disater first.

Here's alink to some articles written in Madrid's El Pais. A lot of talk in a local radio station on this airline, many complaints and probably, some penaltys will be imposed to NM.

It seems that Air Madrid employees are unhappy with their company.

Quoting from this site (In Spanish, sorry!):
http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/158662/2/#comentar

Some things mentioned:
-Company has no respect for their employees
-Working up to 14 hours a day
-No internal information
-Mechanics have been fired or left the company
-Many pilots left the airline
-Purser has been fired for not flying when he knew about the state of one of NM frames.

Quote:

Okay, I would like to share my recent experience with them... as I have no pictures, I am not writing any trip-report.

Problems?? the experince was very strange- at least...

My booking I did on the english web-page, first problem: my booking confirmation was only available in spanish- even I booked on the english page.  Sad

The next very strange thing, Air Madrid is adding to all fares a 12€ e-ticket issuing surcharge (never seen that before...)!

So the flight from Palma to Madrid, arrived at the airport and found out, that on the screens different departures times were displayed. The check-in agent give me the advise, that I shouldn't care about the screens- "just forget it"...

At the gate one handling-guy was shouting out something- only in spanish. no announcements. I found out, that the flight was delayed due to bad weather, no problem. I was booked on the earlier Palma-Mahon-Madrid flight- next gate by was a later non-stop service to Madrid, already boarded. At our gate a boarding was "impossible"... even BOTH a/c were on stand. suddenly a representative was coming to our gate from the neighbour gate and shouted again something in spanish. no clue at all. I found out, that all passengers on the earlier MAD flight via Mahon was re-booked on the later non-stop service. So I changed the gate and as soon I was there, my original flight started boarding-strange. no explanation at all, why I was reebooked. maybe the service from Mahon to MAD CANX? No information at all... What was very strange, I saw the bags off-loaded before re-booking...

many problems in MAD-SCL as well, some flights arrived with more than 24 hours delay and the Chilean consul aiding passengers in Madrid.

Air Madrid ranks top in claims to Chilean authorities (followed by LB, RG, JJ and AR)m and for the first time, they are able to review their operations to Chile.
