In my case, the CRJ was replacing a larger jet. A few years ago you could fly nonstop from Atlanta to Wichita, but that service was discontinued. For a while we could take American to Dallas and catch an F100 up to Wichita. Now Delta is our carrier (we have no choice even though American is available) and the choice is go through Dallas and catch a turboprop, or go through Cincinnati and catch the CRJ. I found both flights through Cincinnati far less crowded than Dallas, plus the overall traffic in Cincinnati is much better. The advantage of Dallas is the availability of more alternate flights should something happen to yours.
Sounds like Coz and I are built about the same. You do duck to get down the aisle, but once you are seated they are about the same as any other sardine-can MD80/727/F100/etc; just with fewer people. The fast loading and unloading, and reliable departure/arrival carries more weight with me than the size of the jet, so I'll be going Comair, again, in the future.
