Rolls-Royce To Power Monarch Boeing 787s

Thu Oct 05, 2006 9:46 pm

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Rolls-Royce said Thursday that Monarch has selected its Trent 1000 to power its new fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The company said that the engine deal, which is for six firm aircraft and four purchase rights, includes a lifetime TotalCare service agreement and is valued at $1 billion.

The Trent-powered 787 twinjets, scheduled for delivery from 2010, will form the core of Monarch's long-haul operation, replacing some of the older aircraft it currently operates. The deal represents the first U.K. Trent 1000 order.

What else than a Rolls-Royce should be worthy to propel a Monarch?  Smile

Hopefully QF will go with Rolls as well... *cross fingers*
I do enjoy a spot of flying, especially when it's not in economy!

If they don't, then they'll be handing GE a lead that RR will find it hard to overturn any time soon. The difference between RR and GE is currently about the same as the number of frames Qantas have ordered. An RR order puts both companies back at neck-and-neck. An order for GE would give them almost a 100 frame lead over RR. Early days, I know, but that would be a significant lead.

Great news.I never expected something else for Monarch...
