Boeing Updates Its Orders Page

Fri Oct 06, 2006 1:55 am

723 net orders - 57 up from last week's 666 !!!!
41 B747 on order now. Looks like the aftermath of the A380 delays is starting to show up faster than expected.

Isn't it nice to see some good aviation news ?!!!

There are now 3 units listed as 747 BBJs and 14 747s as Unidentified.

Interesting.

hmm....

Cathay Pacific Airways have 6 orders for B747 but I really don't know if this is B744, B744F or B748i.

There are also 14 Unidentified B748i orders, so... Maybe we will see a few PAX orders for B748i  Smile

Thanks

How do we know that all 14 are 748I and not F orders?

Has Boeing completely stoped taking orders for the 744? Lastly, the 1 Unidentified order before was a 748I and thought to be a VIP, was it therefore moved to the 3 BBJ or is it still part of the 14 total? Also note the further 787 BBJs..................interesting.

I don't think we do know that, and they have. They sold the last 744 production slot earlier this year. I can't recall off the top of my head to whom.

Yes. All 747-400 production slots (of any model) are now filled and only 747-8 model sales will be taken.

So these 14 UFOs have to be 747-8's, be they I's or F's. If three are BBJs, that makes four 748I orders so far, at minimum.

It's possible. EK has 10 777 options, right? Easy enough to convert them to 748I's. EK has known for at least a week or so that the A380 could see a new delay, so they may have contacted Boeing and noted "we might want to convert our options across families. Make us an offer." Perhaps they also are behind the three new 748I BBJs?

I'm curious to see how many orders are October vs. September orders. When Boeing releases the September results in the next few weeks, I suppose we will know something more of these 747s as well as all those other BBJs and unidentifieds for all the other models.

Bad comparision with the 737-200. Because the 747 is also build in various different versions and has seen many updates.

So now we have a huge YTD sales disparity between Boeing and Airbus. The funny thing is, if Airbus booked orders using Boeing's method, they'd have significantly more this year. Paying for 'cooking the books,' as it were.

He's referring to the way in which Airbus "extended" year 2005 until February 2006 to inflate 2005 numbers and beat Boeing in the total orders number for 2005. Basically, there is a perception that Airbus accounted some orders that were not firmed up until later in 2006 as 2005 orders, effectively reducing the number of firm orders they can now report for 2006. Specifically, the order for 150 A32x from China was all counted as 2005 orders, as soon as the Chinese announced it, while Boeing split their 150 B737 between 2005 and 2006 accordingly to allocation to individual airlines. Both ways are legal, it all gets to different accounting standards between US and EU.

A 748 BBJ. It must be nice to have more money than God........ Can you imagine the sales process?

Airplane salesman: "We have a nice Citation X over here... Air conditioning, autopilot, anti-lock brakes all standard."
Airplane buyer: "Errmmmm... I'm looking for something roomier. More power."
Airplane salesman: "OK, well how about this beauty over here, the 737 BBJ? Room for 50 of your closest friends. NY to Europe in a snap."
Airplane buyer: "This seems a little cramped to me. And I'm not sure I can put a spa or a bowling alley in it."
Airplane salesman: "My friend, you are in luck today. Now, we don't have it in stock yet, but you could be the FIRST on your block to own a 747-8! Imagine, a plane bigger than the President's!"
Airplane buyer: "Go on, I'm listening...."
Airplane salesman: "2 decks! Servant's quarters! Room for 3 chandeliers! Put your ATVs and dirt bikes in the belly! Only $200 million!"
Airplane buyer: "Does it come in blue?"
Airplane salesman: "It comes in any color you want. I'll even throw in the undercoating for free!"
Airplane buyer: "Sold!"
Airplane salesman: (low voice): "tax, title, license registration extra".

(will whomever purchased it throw some $$$ my way? Or maybe just a ride in the plane?)

I actually wrote that into a movie script a few years ago. These guys won a huge lottery, and they got a small jet, but then they wanted to go into space, and while they were at Boeing looking into buying a rocket (unsuccessfully), the "salesman" looked at their corporate jet and sold them a VIP 747 with a little car dealer persuasion.

If we count both manufacturers' sales using the Airbus counting methodology, then Boeing sold more airliners in 2005. If we count both manufacturers' sales using the Boeing counting methodology, then Boeing still sold more airliners in 2005. The only way to reach the conclusion that Airbus sold more in 2005 is to use different counting methodologies.

Boeing announced a 50% increase in 747 production rate earlier this year. They plan on going from approx 12 a year to 18. When you guys are saying the last 744 slot is sold, does that take into account the new rate?

With 66 + 17 new orders not on the unfilled orders page for a total of 83 unfilled orders. They now have a backlog of 4.6 YEARS at the new rate which they are not even at yet.

SHEESH!

I am thinking another increase is possible.
