Air Canada XM International

Sat Oct 07, 2006 10:31 am

Air Canada has installed the new lie flat sleeper pods now in Boeing 767 and pics are posted at least on Jetphotos.net. They look great!!! When will the plane take to the Sky's, if it hasn't already? Check out the first pics.

Wow! It DOES look great! Seems like Virgin Atlantic came up with a really good idea so everybody else is using it! Big grin

By the way, does it feel weird to fly sitting sorta slanted?...just curious.

Finally, it's finished! The first plane was supposed to be ready by May/June, but kept on being pushed back. Let's hope the next few planes for project XM go a bit quicker!

This all looks mighty impressive and all, but, hypothetically (since I'm never going to pay personally for JF), what if you want to sit WITH your travel partner ? The new trend in premium biz long haul seems to preclude this from happening.

AC has done very careful research with regards to this. The same can be argued about couples, and children. Well, it has been deemed that Transat buisness people value getting work done (alone most of the time) as fast and as privately as possible and then rest without being disturbed. And so both the new Executive First "Comfort Seats" and the changes to Exec. First service flow are reflecting that.

Those of you that may flown AC in Exec First in the past 2/3 months (depending on Transat/Transpac route) have noticed that we have dispensed with the manual setup of the tables in favour of trays. This is not only to minimise presence in the aisles, but most importantly to cut that 1st service time by at least 20-30 mins. The service as it was before was very nice, but really long. From what I got from customers recently, they appreciate the faster service flow, so they can move to more important things ASAP like sleeping and working, and watching movies.

Also important to note that with those berths, ailses up front are a little narrower, on the 67 at least.

Cheers!

Thats funny, not only have they copied the VS J class cabin layout, they are also now copying the service. VS recently changed back to tray service in J for the same reasons.

That cabin layout must have proved itself as a good use of space for another airline to copy it.

A majority of the people travelling in those classes are travelling alone and on business, even people on business that travel together usually state they don't want to sit with work colleauges as usually the flight is the only part of the business trip that they get to relax and not talk shop. Generaly people travelling as couples make up a very small % of the J cabins therefore I guess they just have to put up with the cabin layout.

Air Canada's new seats are better than Emirate's...the first class suite......with a sliding door. Whenever I travel with my partner in business class, we each get our own window seat (cus we're both aviation fans) so this won't be a huge change for us! Big grin Just that, we'll have to twist our head to look outside. Big grin

They're not even remotely close. This is a business class product, and bears absolutely no similarity to Emirates FC product except that they both lie flat.

Nothing in print yet, but the same seats as the E175/190's.

In-Flight "mood" lighting is on order, and will be installed at a later date on the 763's.

I'm sure that I'm in the minority here, but I hate the way these sleeper lie-flat seats make an airplane cabin look. The one shown looks like you're walking into a beauty parlor. The only thing missing are hairdryers suspended over each seat.

Is it really a nice feeling to sit in a closed-in coffin-like pod for a long flight?

Sorry...I wasn't being clear. I meant that Emirate's first class seats are so isolated with each other with sliding doors that you can shut. And with Air Canada's business class seats, you can at least see your travel partner(s). I know the difference between first class and business class. Big grin

AC-777LR Introduction & Specs

Sun Oct 08, 2006 6:39 am

Quoting AC777LR (Thread starter):

At last check (I don't believe it's taken to the skies yet) is AC866/09 Oct YUL-LHR.

The first aircraft was to be designated on AC878/9 YYZ-ZRH/DEL, but would suspect it's doing a "dry" run to work out any operating glitches to LHR, as AC has a substantial number of its own maintenance personnel located at Heathrow.

Refurbishment should be stepped up from here on in, as the first aircraft was plagued by interior equipment delays, apparently a copyright issue on the seat design, and Transport Canada regulatory approval.

Nice job Air Canada, I can't wait to see it on the new 777-300ER fleet. This may be the best Business Class in the Star Alliance. I wonder if British Airways has a similar Club product coming out ?

I guess it all comes back to the Flat Bed vs Lie Flat issue ....... BA is Flat Bed already and their New Club World will obviously be even more of an improvement. What angle does this new AC lie flat seat go to ........... I can see someone slipping right off and into the isle !

Well, we are in the same minority. Recently flew VS EWR/LHR in on of those seats and it was terrible. They are narrow, you cannot see out of the window unless you want to be fitted for a neck brace, there is no storage space at all, and facing sideways isn't all it's cracked up to be.

This being said, the VS service has gone to hell in a handbasket. Terrible....dont know what Richie has his shorts in a twist about-BA just smiply does it better....especially those tea sandwiches right before landing!

So, there is MHO....but then again, I have flown SQ in F way too many times.....now that is a ride I always look forward to..wouldn't mind staying up there more than the 13 hours to/from HK, etc.

Cheers!

Nope it cannot; it's written in small letters on the ottoman. Besides, it's too narrow to use as a seat.

Hmm... that's debatable, as there is some green in the fabric; conversely, the exterior often has a blue hue to it, depending on lighting conditions.

Been flying on the EMB's and the refurbished 320's, and there is absolutely no green in the seat fabric. It's true blue.

How's this for some Marketing Ingenuity:

The colour scheme is themed "Refreshing Canadian Spirit".

The colour palette of J/C is known as "Seascape".

The colour palette of Y/C is known "Breeze".

It is going to be weird to fly in the new cabin especially from different angle. But I'm looking forward to trying it out someday. It does look narrow but its not too narrow. Its a lie flat bed which will be nice so you won't feel you are slipping forward..

I think it's fascinating that AC decided to adopt a seat-belt/airbag hybrid that has a car-seat style attachment (i.e. push button) instead of the standard metal release. Anyone know any reasons for this? Amsafe (the people who makes the airbag for the VZ Upper class seats) does have a standard metal release variant of the hybrid seat belt airbag.

Also, what is AC's recommendation regarding brace positions in this type of new seat?
Release your seat-belts and get out! Leave everything!

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard! Especially coming from a Canadian. Maybe it's time you go out and buy a Canadian dictionary vs. being lazy and ignorant by relying on Microsoft Word Spell Check to "properly" spell for you. You're getting your spelling from the internet (which is mostly American), Television (mostly American) and movies (mostly American). If you don't like the U in words like colour then maybe you should move to the States.

Here are a couple of words that ought to through your brain into a whirling derbish!

Manoeuvre, Travelled, Foetus, Instalment and Oestrogen.

Well Typos do happen. I'm not spitting on American spelling, that's the way you guys spell and there is nothing wrong with that. But it's sad when Canadians are too lazy to know the difference between American spelling and Canadian spelling (which is actually British spelling). It's just another sign of American imperialism.

I wish AC could have used the B777 overhead bin style instead of keeping their old style it would have improved much for different atomosphere right?..
Anyways I can't wait. If I'm correct I think few handful of B767-200ERs will be getting extreme makeover too?.. I will have to look where I saw it then be back..

I've found it.. Shows the chart for fleet Refurbishment Complete By Next Summer. As you can see they have B767-200 doing makeover too. Here's the link. Its on page 35 of 45. http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/investor/documents/sctac-may06.pdf

Each square box represent how many months for entire fleet of each model will take to complete the Refurbishment. For example looks like it will take 15months to do entire B767-300ERs.. 5 months to do B767-200ER starting this month.

I'm surprised at the lack of 777 style interiors in the makeover as well. At first there was talk of winglets, 777 style interiors, and new seats. I knew the winglets had been dropped but had no idea the 777 style interiors had been dropped as well. Very disappointing.
