Northwest 757 With Winglets

Sun Oct 08, 2006 1:09 am

Just to give you guys a heads up there is a NW 752 flying with winglets. I got N536US on approach to 25R yesterday at LAX, freaking clouds covered the sunlight at the wrong time  banghead

Much better than the picture I got at DTW last week. I didn't have my Canon with me, just my cheap Nikon that didn't take well through the tinted windows of the Smith Terminal, but I did see it last week there and apparently I had just missed it Sunday when I did some spotting at DTW last Sunday with my good camera.

Why did NW decide to put winglets on the 757?

I saw a this NWA 757 at MSP when I was driving to work last week sitting in front of the hangar on Interstate 494. However the next day when I drove by with my camera it was gone.

I hate the regular B757 but with winglets it looks beautiful!

I can't wait to see the AY birds with winglets too! (They have ordered them already.)

DTW-DUB, BOS-TXL and routes of that nature. Plus, NW plans to keep their 757s around for a while, those winglets will pay themselves off in gas saved.

In Finland B757 is a warning sign - it means packed, uncomfortable  crowded holiday flights on Finnair or Air Finland, to be avoided if just possible...
Those are about the only kind of B757s you meet in Finland, Continental should come to HEL and make a change...
And true, it's a pretty bird with winglets.

I know, but AY isn't the only carrier I've flown the B757 with. I didn't like it on AA either...

But yeah, CO to HEL with B757 would make a nice change.  Wink

I've asked this before on the original thread but not gotten an answer. Just how much extra range are these winglets expected to get? Any leads to exact figures. The manufacturers site only mentions the 737NG estimate. Any ideas?

In some of the searches i did it said some carriers could expect to save between 200,000 to 250,000 of gallons of fuel per aircraft a year.A lower thrust setting on takeoff and cruise witch in turn would reduce MX cost in the long run,and it would pay for itself in 2 to 3 years.Very nice

Grrrrrrrrrrreat !!!

The B757 was always a damn good looking airplane and with winglets the look is even better!!!

I cannot wait to see more of them flying in europe. (Last week i saw a SunExpress one - it looked very, very nice)

I know it is not worth to talk about, but...why on earth didn´t Boeing update the B757 and keep it alive...? THAT is a beauty! The A321 or B739 are in no way comparable!

Johnny  Smile

p.s. Any rumours heard about B753s refitted with these winglets as well?

Its done by a contractor in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.

No, as of right now only 7 of the aircraft will get winglets, (they are the 5600 series) and are supposed to get a interior refurbish and will have 16 of the new WBC seats in them.

I don't think they needed a logo on the winglet, but I'm not a fan of where the red paint ends (on the winglet or the tail for that matter)--- it looks like they ran out of paint. That is, of course, just my $0.002

No, they sent the 757s out to get winglets, and there are no plans to give 753's winglets..... so far just some of the 752s are getting them for use on longer routes. My opinion is eventually the whole NW 757 fleet will get them as money becomes more available.

Quoting Cadet57 (Reply 28):

I think NW is trying to get away from being just a feeder to KL at AMS. I am thinking they want to start more flights to europe from their hubs and focus cities in north america to places other than AMS. BDL-AMS is possible, but I think we'll see things like DTW-MAN, DTW-DUB, DTW-CPH or something like that. Maybe more routes out of BOS as well - seeing as that will give them more reach into europe with a 757 than anyone else.

BDL-AMS will operate from July 1, 2007 with 752W and this is confirmed by NW.

Other B752 flights to AMS become:

BOS-AMS (1x daily 752, 1x daily A333)
DTW-AMS (1x daily 752, and 4 daily on A330's)

Addionally, also DTW-DUS will also be operated daily from June 15, 2007.

AMS will be THE airport to catch the winglet version of the NW 757 for sure!  Smile For sure that we will see some nice photographs from those birds here in 2007!

It just stops too early. I realise this has probably to do with the dimensions of the flag, but I'm sure something could've been done there.
