Why No Winglets On 787!

Why does the 787 not have winglets like the 77W and the 737NG ? Are the eff. gained for other things making the winglets reduntant !

It does have winglets. It uses the blended wingtip... which give the same effect and is the same used on the newer 767's and 777's and the new 747-8

The 787-3 will have the more traditional "winglets" that flow up from the end of the wing. The 787-8 and 787-9 (and probably any larger variants) have the blended wingtips that cant back parallel to the wing ala the 764ER, 772LR, and 773ER.

The 787-8/9 and 747-8 use a style of blended wingtip that was actually pioneered by Fairchild Dornier before they went defunct. It's considered more advanced than the flat wedge-like wingtip on the 777LR and 764ER.

And as others have said, the 787-3 has a 737NG-like vertical winglet to reduce span distance and allow the aircraft to fit into smaller gates. It will also provide more lift on lower-speed take-offs and landings.

The 787-3 has 737NG style winglets while the -8 and -9 have a type of raked wingtip that flex in the air that almost look like winglets. All three are going to look fantastic!
